Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair

An oldie, but goodie, this product has really stood the test of time. I believe it has been around for 30 years or so and I am always finding it in top ten lists in magazines and given great reviews online, which to me is far more important!
I have to stress that I am not at all a skincare expert and what works for me may not work for you. However, this product seems to be one that transcends the skin type boundaries that companies like to label their products with. I think it would work for all skin types, which is great if you are like me and your skin doesn't quite fit into the standard nomenclature. Every time I have a facial or ask a professional about my skin I get different answers. I seem to be floating in the oily/ combination/ sensitive/ sometimes blemish prone area, which makes choosing quite difficult. I normally don't stick to a routine, but give my skin what it needs on a daily basis. Your skin changes every day, and mine is very temperamental depending on the weather/ time of the month/ stress, so I find it best to mix up products.

I won't bore you with the long blurb as this can easily be found on the Lauder site here if you are interested. In my understanding this serum aims to:
  • Repair the appearance of past damage (lines and uneven skintone) using chronolux technology (Environmental stresses can damage your skin cells' DNA, hence if the genes are out of sync the skin can't regenerate effectively and we get wrinkles. ANR helps to synchronize clock genes so that your skin's natural repair process can function optimally at night).
  • Repair the appearance of damage by environmental assaults (UV light, smoke, pollution and even emotional stress).
  • Create an optimal environment for repair by enhancing hydration using Hyaluronic Acid.
  • Soothe the look of daily irritation and builds rich anti-oxidant reserve to help replenish skin's own natural protectants (barrier function).
So in essence it aims to repair past damage and protect the skin from future damage. Pretty much what we all want then!

Now, I can't report on how well it reduces lines as I do not believe in using anti-wrinkle creams at my age (23) and don't believe that girls in their 20s have 'wrinkles' no matter what friends/ companies/ magazines tell me. Yes, I have lines on my forehead because I talk with my eyebrows a lot, but honestly it's not something that causes me anguish. Sometimes I feel like the whole anti-wrinkle cream industry would have us slather babies in the stuff!
I purchased this product in the beginning of December. While at my boyfriend's house my skin had started really acting up due to the freezing snow outside contrasting with the stuffy dry air inside. The heater in his room just blew hot air at me all night and in the morning my skin was as shrivelled as a Twiglet! I have never suffered from dry skin before and none of my moisturisers seemed to make any difference. With the party season looming I decided that desperate times call for desperate measures. In my case this was £36 for 30ml of golden serum.

I have used this product every night since and I can't praise it enough. No, it's not a miracle worker as some would have you believe, but it will give you visible results. Having very fair skin any minor blemish is not only extremely visible, but once gone the redness fades very slowly. I'm talking months. In general I bruise very easily and heal very slowly, a winning combination. Unlike anything I have tried before ANR really does speed up the healing process for me, be it from blemishes, irritation or rashes.

It also helps to keep my skin hydrated without being oily, greasy or taking a long time to soak in. I usually apply about 5 drops after toner and can apply my moisturiser straight away.  In the past if I need to use a moisturiser targeted for acne I would mix in a pump of a richer moisturiser to prevent my skin from drying out. However, if I apply the serum first a light moisturiser is enough. I feel like it makes your moisturiser work better, though that's a little difficult to gauge.

The only part I'm not crazy about is the smell, which is somehow herbal and clinical at the same time, but it is not strong enough to offend, and most people don't seem to find it a problem.

Will I be repurchasing? Yes!! Since the second I lightly touch the corner of a table, or play with Maxie without trimming his claws, I am covered in blue bruises and scratches that won't heal till... Oh who am I kidding I still have a bump from a bruise I got in late 2008! I wish they would make a big enough bottle that I could bathe in!

Have you ever tried any products from the Advanced Night Repair range? What was your experience? Are you tempted to give it a go? Are you bored of my rambling yet ;)? xxx

Haute Couture Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: A Final Highlight: Jean Paul Gaultier

Haute Couture TequilaHaute Couture Fashion Week in Paris ended a few weeks ago (and now the fashion world has its eyes on New York City), but I would be remiss if I did not include one last runway show video here on my blog for all my Haute Couture-loving readers to enjoy: Jean Paul Gaultier.

For Spring/Summer 2010, Jean Paul Gaultier had Mexico on his mind. He confessed in an interview that it had been 30 years since he had visited Mexico but he was nonetheless, inspired. The starting off point was Mel Gibson's Mayan blood-bath film Apocalypto from 2006. The rest involved a mix of Colonial Ladies-Who- Lunch style suits, Conquistador-printed sequin gowns... Aztec Goddesses in Rodarte-inspired (?) car-wash yarn dresses, Jungle-like Bird Empresses, bustier cage cocktailwear and 80s-inspired split-side denim pant ensembles. The soundtrack was as eclectic as the clothes I just described, with a Latin-Afro-Cuban-Tropical-Jungle House vibe. There was even a "special guest star model": The exotically gorgeous Chloe Morteud, Miss France 2009. All that was missing was a Mariachi band and some Maria Felix and Cantiflas look-a-likes.

Click BELOW for the entire Runway Video...Enjoy!

Nick Verreos, John Rabe and KPCC Public Radio Love!

This one is for Angelenos ONLY!!!Photo Finish: Nick Verreos, Julian Bermudez and KPCC's John Rabe

Last week, as you may remember, I was invited to the 18Th Annual Art of Motion Picture Costume Design Exhibition at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising Museum and Galleries in FIDM's Downtown Campus.

One highlight--besides seeing all the glorious costumes, meeting the costume designers and mingling with friends--was also an encounter I had as I was about to leave: Two handsome men wearing all black, approached me saying what big fans they were of me and Project Runway and if I would oblige them with a photo.
Then, one of them said "Thank You" and I almost fell on the floor: I recognized his voice as John Rabe, one of my favorite on-air radio personalities from one of the only radio stations I listen to in LA: KPCC 89.3. He hosts a show called "Off Ramp" which I listen to religiously. I never knew what he looked like and now, there he was, posing next to me! I truly had an "LA Moment". And now, he even wrote about it on his blog as well! Thanks for the mention John!

Girls, Can't Be Lazy!

I don't know what got into me as I woke up earlier than usual these couple days.... it is not even 8:00 AM when my son is at home waiting to be walked to school by DH.

But, I feel great to be an early bird. I have extra hour or so to dress myself up before my other two daughters' rambling all over the house!! ^O^

You know, being a woman or even a MOM, "laziness" is not an excuse in front of everyone!! I said it thousand times, "There is no ugly woman, only the lazy ones." I know it gets even more difficult after being a mom and that might be even a common syndrome to all the devoted moms. I know cause' I have been there!!!

My friend asked me if I ever had a bad mood!!

"SURE", I immediately answered.

"Then how can you still dress yourself up when the day is cloudy to you?", she kept asking me n' wondered by herself a thousand times before!!

"I don't know, maybe I've been inundated with complaints of untidiness by my Dad or not being pretty enough by my MOM during my childhood??(Sounds like a pretty tough family, isn't it!?) :P Then it forced me to keep myself up to the best all the time after being a grown-up??"

haha...~ ~ ~ I do psychological evaluation of myself whenever my friends asked me all sorts of those questions!!  It is good cause' I get to do more inner-thinking n' improve myself!!  Plus, help my friends to understand me n' maybe give them better advices in the future!!

Ok, enough talking.

Here we go Valentine's Hot pink teasing outfit preview!! :P

Iconic British Fashion Designer Alexander Mcqueen Dies

RIP Alexander McQueen
The Fashion World suffered a huge blow today with the untimely death of one of it's biggest stars. Alexander McQueen died today in his London Flat.

Police said his death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokeswoman for McQueen said: "Mr McQueen was found dead this morning at his home. We're devastated and I hope you understand that out of respect to his family and his colleagues we're not going to be making any further statement."

A message on his website alexandermcqueen.com said: "At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee's family."

I have followed Alexander McQueen since his career began and have always been a huge fan and have written about him in my blog many times. Workin' the Plaid: Alexander McQueen and Sarah Jessica Parker at the Costume Institute Gala 2006

Besides being a Fashion Superstar in his own right, McQueen has dressed almost every celebrity you can think of. One of the most memorable being Sarah Jessica Parker at the Costume Institute Gala several years ago. While she ended up on many peoples worst dress list, it was one of those images that is unforgettable and definitely made a "Fashion Statement" that is the very thing McQueen was so brilliant at.

Reptilian Diva: Alexander McQueen Spring 2010

Most recently McQueen dressed Anna Paquin for the SAG Awards in a cocktail dress from his Spring 2010 Collection. This will now be remembered as his final collection and there is no doubt after viewing these reptilian inspired looks that he ended his career at the "top of his game"
Painted Lady: Alexander McQueen Fall 2009

McQueen rose to fame quickly after he received his Masters Degree in Fashion Design from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and famously, his graduation collection was bought in its entirety by influential fashion stylist Isabella Blow, who committed suicide just 3 years ago.
Alexander McQueen: Fall 2006

He was known as the "Bad Boy of Fashion" and in his early years wore the banner proudly. In 1996 he was hired by LVMH president Bernard Arnault to replace designer John Galliano at the prestigious Couture House of Givenchy. Although he had a shaky start, he persevered and continued to design amazing collections until 2001 when he left to focus on his own label.

Alexander McQueen was a rare talent and will be truly missed.
