20s Young Girls vs. Early 30s Slightly Matured Women!!

Today I went out w/ my friend, Irene. We are at the age of what people categorize as slighted matured women. When we dress, we tend to think about the good manner of "being appropriate". However, when we were young, we never have to worry about wearing a secured panties under our mini skirt. We dress whatever we want regardless what people think.

Irene wants to find a panties so she can dress her little dress or mini skirt w/o worrying about a thing. So we went to American Apparel in Palo Alto.

I swear that we only spend 1 hr. at American Apparel before my little one fall deeply asleep in the stroller.

Irene and I had exactly same design of cardigan VESTs....mine is gray tone w/ dusty rose color while hers is gray. We don't know that we wear the same vest until we met up. hah....... Oh, of course except for we bought the cardigan vest from Taiwan together.

M Mission ruffel skirt has some purple trim which echos w/ my tights.

Busy as bee!!

Both of Irene and I have to pick our kids up from school. We went home for snack to replenish energy and wait for
my son's 5 PM tennis class. Our whole family went together and DH even get off from work earlier. I want my son to feel that we are there for him until a day that he can attend the class alone.

He had so much fun at class and so do we.

Big shoulder + Mini Part II !!!

So the fashion indeed comes around and goes around every 10 or 15 years!! The big shoulder look is back!! Runway shows are full of the 80s inspired look, big shoulder, bright colors, and exaggerated expression and accessories! Haha, oh ~~ just like Madonna's style in the movie of "Desperately Seeking Susan!"

Desperately Seeking Susan (Theatrical Trailer)
Uploaded by NakedBrotha2007

In Japan, there is a new phrase describing girls who read fashion magazine everyday and copy exactly what's on the runway look. You merely see their personality nor so-called
style at all through what they wear. They called this kind of girl...."sweet heart girl".

In fact, that's not too bad for a nickname at all and doesn't even sound anything wrong to me. I guess girls wear runway or trendy look is still fabulous but if a girl can say "Wow, it's cute, but NO, it does suit me." Then I would say that girl knows her own style!!!

This is a jacket I am in love w/.

Today,I am up to the big shoulder challenge w/ my personal style again.
I figured that I have to be brave and creative for this big shoulder coat to have the back to 80s look.

This morning, I went grocery shopping w/ my little one in Target. A lady about her 50s or 60s commented on my outfit, she goes: "What a beautiful outfit!!!" I thanked her kind blandishments and think I must have done it right w/ the look. If I recall it right, I was only 5 yrs. old when Madonna's career hit the sky high around 1980s.

Here is my ODJ.

1. TOP:
  • no-lita net sleeves w/ shoe laces in front top
  • no brand sleeveless sweater
  • St. John for Imagnin evening jacket
2. Bottom: H&M gray mini jean skirt
3.
Teal colored hosiery
4.
Purple w/ metallic sheen belt
5. Rudy's
riding boots (bought in Paris)
6. Accessory: Pink beads w/ gold chain necklace
7. Bag: Chanel distressed white reissue 227

I thought the pink beaded necklace will soften the edgy look and add a little feminine. Maybe I can find a gold metal chain necklace too.

I like colored tights, so I update this 80s look w/ this teal hosiery and my big smile. :)

This sleeves has the sexy design which should go better w/ the exaggerated jacket.

Every single piece has a little surprise!!

Sorry that my camera is broken and I don't know how to use my husband's fancy camera!!

Now I have this very ME look and love it!!

Day 6 after the spider vein surgery (Sclerotherapy).

I still cannot wear heels until my Doc. approval. I wore my Chanel flat out ...but just don't think it matches my ODJ so I took pic. w/ a pair of better alternatives.

I am very happy as I received my Chanel Rodeo Drive Large Tote today. I sent my bag to have it repaired last year in Dec. It reminds me my family's Paris trip last Nov. and we had such a wonderful time in France. W.henever I carried this Chanel tote, I feel like going to a vacation in Europe again.

I am in a mood of sailing!!

The belt is almost the same shade as my heels.

1. TOP:
  • Max&Co. gold sparkle dark brown shirt
  • Colcci tartan vest (made in Brazil)
2. Bottom:
  • black riding pants/leggings
  • tag fall off - longer leg pants w/ slits at side(made in UK)
3. Shoes: Jean-Mitchel Cazabat metallic brown/purple two buckles strap heels
4. houndstooth scarf
5. Belt: purple belt w/ metallic sheen
6. Bag:
  • Chanel Gray classic jumbo
  • Chanel black Rodeo Drive Large tote
I will shed off riding pants in the summer for a sexier look....:P

W/O scarf, I like this MOD look w/ Gray Jumbo classic.

81st Annual Academy Awards TV Guide Network Fashion Wrap Video

What does my love for Tilda Swinton, a "Napkin Gown" and a Thief have in common? Well, click on the above video and find out...

In case you missed the finale of our last Awards Season Fashion Wrap--here it is!!!!
This is the TV Guide Oscars Fashion Wrap which we filmed on Monday, just a day after the Academy Awards. We all had a crazy fun time--like always--speaking fashion, jewelry and hair--and dishing as if we were all at home having chips and guacamole, and lots of Margaritas (even though of course, we weren't).
I think this was one of our best and I just cannot wait until the next Awards Season begins.
See you on the Red Carpet!

Mix n' Match from 40s to 70s!!!

Ruffle skirt is always a staple of being feminine w/ a little flirty. I found a longer length ruffle skirt which will give me a more sophisticated look. I like the term "Posh eclectic" (credited to The Lucky guide to mastering any style.) for the style I had on today.

I found women are even sexier when dress mixed old Hollywood glamour w/ urban sleekness.

I always like dusty rose color and variation of that color spectrum. I found this St. John Contour (runway) ensemble has pretty much about everything I am looking for.

Here is my ODJ!!

1. TOP
  • white silk cami.
  • Gucci black ruched neck tank top
  • St. John Contour
  • Jill Stuart green cropped peplum coat
2. St. John Contour ruffle skirt
3. Shoes: Rudy's riding boots (bought in Paris)
4. Bag: Lanvin Happy Sac
5. Belt: Ellen Tracy camel belt w/ gold bamboo style buckle
6. Accessory:
  • Cameo earrings (bought at vintage store)
  • Rose motif necklace w/ gold chain (bought at vintage store)
I always love cameo necklace, ring or earrings. I found this very old pair of real cameo earrings in the second hand shop and absolutely adore it. It is so old that there are some rusty green in the back of the earrings and you even have to screw them onto your earlobe.

Now I might just need to find a matching cameo necklace to go w/ my cameo earrings.

Here are the looks w/o coat on.

The Jill Stuart coat really transform the whole look and the way I like better.

I really like this light weight, chic Jill Stuart coat to balance the grayish/pinkish feminine ensemble on me.

My little one always wants to be in the camera w/ me.

Hello, there. Here are my 3 little ones.

NY Fashion Week-Fall 2009 Runway Videos-Part 1

Fashion Schmashion...
Lady In Zac Posen Red: Cowl-draped shouldered plunging neck ruffled gown, Fall 2009

So, it has become a tradition of sorts here at www.nickverreos.com to, of course, talk about fashion and especially what's the "freshest" and "newest" in fashion, and particularly, on the runways. Because I was crazy-busy doing all my segments for Oscar.com and all things surrounding the Academy Awards, New York Fashion Week sort of came and went. In fact, I was going to go to NY and attend the Finale of the newest (and yet un-aired) Season 6 of Project Runway at Bryant Park, but could not, because it conflicted with my duties for Oscar.com (oh well!). I have added some great runway shows from some of the top designers who showed at last week's New York Fashion Week, as well as accompanying photos naturally.

Zac Posen:
Zac Posen Fall '09: Cowl draped shoulder bias gown

Oh, Zac, he loves DRAMA (and so do I huney!). And he gave them drama for his Fall 2009 Collection. There were loose themes of Victoriana, Joan Crawford and 1930's Hollywood in his collection, mostly confined to dresses and gowns--from bias-cut slithery silks to full ruffled mermaid shapes. Joan Crawford Shoulders: Zac Posen Fall '09 exaggerated raglan and bishop sleeved cocktail dress

There was a lot of interest and focus on the shoulders (a theme for Fall '09) therefore the Joan "No More Wire hangers Christina!" Crawford reference. Style.com wasn't necessarily won over and deemed it a bit "too much". Zac Posen, too much? Really?
Click Below for Parts 1 and 2 of Zac Posen Fall 2009 Runway Show

Oscar De La Renta:Dominican Diva: Model-of-the-moment Arlenis gives you plunging neckline

Elegant, high-society clothes for the moneyed set. This has always been Oscar De La Renta's anthem. For Fall 2009 , he did not change a thing---and thank God for his clients. Speaking of clients, if the use of more than one or two models of color (Gracias Oscar!) is any indication, I have a feeling somebody is trying to woo First Lady Michelle Obama, either overtly or covertly. Oscar De La Renta has always been known to be the favorite designer of the upper-echelons of the Ladies-who-lunch REPUBLICAN set. Violet Goddess: A violet-colored silk column one-shoulder gown, Oscar de la Renta Fall '09 (also worn by Jessica Biel to the Oscar After Parties Sunday night!)

But change is in Washington, and so Oscar may seem to be trying to change his "political" fashion colors, as they say. Whatever the (wonderful) conscious decision of using so many STUNNING Black girls, I love that his first and final model were models of color---talk about CHANGE!!!
Final Exit: Model Jourdan Dunn in a black-and-white strapless ball gown

His Fall 2009 Collection was stunning, filled with expensive silks, duchess satins and wools, and had hints of Kiera Knightley's "The Duchess" (look at that hair!). Of course I absolutely loved the stunning gowns at the end. Yes, we are in an economic recession, but don't tell that to Oscar or his ladies.

Shopping :)

I promised myself to be good this weekend and not buy any more makeup. I failed, but not too badly :).
I got the YSL Rouge Volupte no.7- lingerie pink, thank you Lorraine. It is such a pretty pale pink and the formulation of the lipstick is incredible. It is love :).
I also got the palest lavender (129) lipstick from Barry M, I love lavender lipstick and I think this colour is more wearable than lavender whip. What do you guys think?
I also bought an eyeliner from GOSH in green boost. I love the formulation of these as they are super creamy and soft, much like the Urban Decay 24/7 liners. I thought that this pale green was so unusual, and I love it on the lower lashline :).
The website describes these as follows:
GOSH VELVET TOUCH EYELINER belongs to a new generation of semi-permanent make-up. It does not smudge. It is 100% waterproof, long lasting, and resists almost anything. It has excellent coverage and a smooth, soft quality. GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liner is soft and easy to apply. It contains vitamin-E and Jojoba Oil to care for your delicate skin, however it does not contain animal or mineral oils. It is also fragrance-free to prevent allergic reactions.
Sounds good!!
My darling boyfriend also got me an early present for the 8th March, which is a sort of 'Women's Day' in Russia. Any excuse for presents huh? He got me this cute gold necklace from Disney Couture that I saw on Lindsay Lohan. It says 'Fairest of them all' and has a red apple. Who doesn't love Snow White and Disney in general?

Nick Verreos at the Oscars Trevor Project Viewing Party!

Oh What a Sunday...
Substitute Hostin': Nick Verreos Raffles Gift Packages at the Trevor Project 2009 Oscars Viewing Party

Of course, as we all know, the Academy Awards were Sunday night---I had filmed all my Oscar.com segments for the Oscars Designer Challenge: Behind The Dress and my former Project Runway mentor, Tim Gunn, was given the duties to announce the winner Live on the Pre-Awards Red Carpet ABC Special. I know.... I was "bumped off" for Mr. Tim Gunn, can you believe it?? (He does have a Tide Commercial after all...and his own show).
I was invited by The Trevor Project, an organization to promote acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth and to aid in crisis and suicide prevention among that group, to attend their annual Oscar Night Viewing Party at Here Lounge in West Hollywood. I am a big supporter of The Trevor Project and was happy to attend. I also brought a "date", my good friend Colin, who happily obliged.
Nick Verreos and friend, Colin Murphy, at Trevor Project 2009 Oscars Viewing Party

Comedian and "Ugly Betty" actor Alec Mapa was supposed to have hosted it, which was an added "plus" for me to attend, since he is a friend and INCREDIBLY funny! I could only IMAGINE his funny one-liners "no-he-didn't" comments during the commercial breaks. Unfortunately, Alec was not there (a family emergency, I hear) but there were some fantastic Drag Diva performances during the breaks that kept the crowd motivated and happy! (see photos) . Looking around in the crowd, it seemed like a LOGO Network Reunion: I spotted actors from the Logo show, "Noah's Arc" as well as one of my favorite actresses, Ann Walker from "Sordid Lives" (I LOVE that show!!!). She looked EXACTLY like the character she plays on the series, Miss LaVonda. Of course, I was secretly dying!
I love me Some Purple! Nick Verreos poses with a lot of jersey print

There were also great "Ticket Give Aways"--such as tooth whitening, spa services and products galore. At one point, I was asked to help out in the ticket raffle announcing--of course I quickly got up from my chair and was excited to see the sold-out crowd's response as they were happy to see me up there QUEENIN' OUT! (and giving away stuff!)
Bollywood Fierceness: Musical Tribute to Slumdog Millionaire

A couple of hours into the Viewing Party, I realized that I had to go home to watch the end, as well as to do my "Homework" for the next day. I was filming my TV Guide Oscars Fashion Wrap with Lisa Rinna and had HOURS and HOURS of red carpet who-wore-what internet viewing.....

Gone crazy w/ retro style n' Do-it-yourself project on my old clothes!!

Why do people love to shop at eBay? Is it because everything is cheaper or is it just convenient? Or just want to find something which doesn't exist in the present time.

As I am pretty addicted to shop at vintage store these days and finding it is so fun to dress back time like 60s or 70s. I know, I don't just dress retro style, I also feel the history and have the right attitude. I definitely understand that when you dress up, don't let the ensemble speak louder than your personality.

Here is my little project I did last week after I read runway fashion magazine. Everyone loves nice brand, good quality clothes but not everyone would spend so much money on every piece of high brand clothes. I know I wouldn't.

I like
left ensemble of this Lanvin outfit w/ that light sophisticated and just the right feminine and modern look.

I cut off my old long sleeves shirt and transform it to a Lanvin-like look. Now I think I'd wear it more often this summer.

1. TOP:
  • Metallic silver long sleeves shirt altered to 1/2 length sleeves by myself
  • Chanel gray/red classic boucle jacket
2. Bottom: Nichols Rosae techno skirt w/ pocket and drawstring
3. Black legging
4. Embroidery necklace w/ beads (bought in Anthro.)
5. Bags:
  • Chanel Metallic Dark Silver reissue 227
  • Chanel Distressed white reissue 227
  • Chanel Gray lambskin classic jumbo
  • Lanvin leopard happy sac
6. Shoes:
  • Orange Boss of Hugo Boss olive green suede ankle boots w/ ruched cuff n' bow tie in back
  • Pink sparkling pointed heels w/ crystals strap (bought in Taiwan)
  • Chanel Gray w/ mini charms mary jane flat
Different combo of bags and shoes gives one ensemble the same posh look .

I will take off the stocking or change to a sheered pair w/ heels and my Lanvin happy sac in spring/summer.

I like the fact that the necklace almost looks it is attached on my shirt.

Although gray would go practically w/ everything, I would say this Chanel classic Gray jumbo doesn't impress me so much.

Metallic Dark Silver reissue w/ Chanel boucle jacket.

The last look is very much alike the
Lanvin runway style. And so I like the most.

Summer time~~

Academy Awards Fashion Wrap with Lisa Rinna and Nick Verreos!

Oscars Fashion Wrap Madness and Dior's "Junon" gown makes a Comeback???
Lisa Rinna and Nick Verreos on TV Guide Network Fashion Wrap

Yes kids, it's that time again for the Oscars Fashion Wraps---make sure to watch, starting tonight at 7, 8, 9 and 11 PM on the TV Guide Network--check you local listings and your cable provider (sounds so official!!!). Along with the "TV Guide Network Panel of Experts", stylist Jennifer Rade (she styles Angelina Jolie!), Lawrence Zarian, and colorist-to-the-stars Kim Vo, I joined in on the fun. This was our last Fashion Wrap of the 2008-2009 Awards Season and trust me, we ended with a Fashion Bang!
Look Familiar? Zuhair Murad's Spring 2009 Couture Gown and Christian Dior's "Junon" gown from Fall 1949

Speaking of a Fashion Bang
: As I was watching the Pre-Oscar shows last night to see what all the actresses were wearing for the Academy Awards (since of course I have to do my "homework"), an "I-Have-Seen-That-Before" image instantly came to mind. As Miley Cyrus made her Red carpet appearance in a beaded gown by Lebanese couturier Zuhair Murad, I could not help but think "Oh My GAWWWD---that dress looks JUST like a very famous Christian Dior 'Junon' gown from his Fall 1949 Collection!!!!" In fact, I sprinted off my couch and instantly retrieved one of my many Haute Couture Books, "Haute Couture: The Metropolitan Museum of Art" and went right to the page that showcased this gorgeous and iconic Dior gown. See photos above for the Zuhair Murad gown as it was shown in Paris at his Spring 2009 Couture Collection, the original Dior "Junon" gown and Miley wearing the Murad gown at the Oscars Red Carpet. Looks kind of similar, what do you think?
Watch tonight on the TV Guide Oscars Fashion Wrap with Lisa Rinna as I get to say a little bit of something about that...as well as a lot more...
Happy Awards Season!
