Gifts for Her!

The most hectic days of the year are upon us and with only a week to go before Christmas it's time to get organised! So many of you have sent me messages asking for advice so I thought I would put together a little last minute gift guide, to suit all budgets, for those struggling to maintain the Christmas cheer while bustling around the shops ;). Let's begin with gifts for her (for him and for you coming up next)!

For Her

Liz Earle Essentials Try-Me kit (£21.75) - This skincare set is great for any age and would make the perfect gift for the girl who is always too busy to pamper herself, but deserves a lovely treat. This kit includes the celebratred Cleanse and Polish (with muslin cloth), Instant Boost Skin Tonic and two Skin Repair Moisturisers (one for dry/ sensitive and one for normal/combination skin) enclosed in a durable little makeup bag.
White Tea and Ginger Bath Gift Set (£24.99) - For the budget conscious who don't like to show it this set has a great range of beautifully presented products including bath soap, body lotion, bath confetti, hand wash, bubble bath, bath salts, shower gel, and sponge in a stylish ceramic bowl. You don't have to rush out either, if you order by Tuesday 21st December with standard delivery your gifts are guaranteed to be delivered by Christmas Eve!
Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant (Limited Edition) (£15.50) - In this harsh winter weather Eight Hour Cream is an absolute handbag essential for dehydrated skin and chapped lips. The limited edition packaging is adorable too!
ELF 100piece Eyeshadow Palette (£15.00) - Having had the opportunity to try this palette out it is evident that the price does not reflect the quality of these shadows. Pigmented, smooth and with a range of textures this palette would make a wonderful gift for the younger girl starting to experiment with makeup through to the makeup master. I absolutely love it and think it is incredible value for money.
GHD Midnight Collection Gift Set Limited Edition (On sale £119.20 down from £149!) - This wonderful new GHD set would make a wonderful gift for the glamorous girl in your life. We all know GHDs are pricey, but this set including the gold classic styler, limited edition travel hair dryer, styler pouch with heat resistant roll mat, treasure chest case, baroque travel mirror and two ghd sectioning clips is currently 20% off!
Ted Baker Tellan Leather Jacket (£299) or Reiss Rogers Biker Leather Jacket (£275) - Every girl needs a good leather jacket, and I am in love with these two. The quality of the leather is stunning in both and the feminine, fitted shape makes it versatile and perfect to throw over a party dress or a smart blouse and pencil skirt. One of these is actually my Christmas present this year ;). Yay!
Viktor and Rolph Flowerbomb Gift Set (£48.50) and Emporio Armani Diamonds Gift Set (£34.50) - At a recent fragrance event I was given the chance to try a multitude of different perfumes and these are my two top picks for the season. V&R is one of my all time favourites - femine and floral this warm, sweet fragrance with notes of tea, bergamot, jasmine, orchid and rose is a signature statement scent. Armani Diamonds is a fragrance I had never tried before - elegant and feminine with top notes of rose and raspberry that blend into an amber and vanilla base, I think this perfume will be enjoyed by many!

Zara Messenger Bag (£29.99) - While browsing the Zara website (as you do!) I noticed this stunning bag and thought it would make a perfect present at a budget friendly price! With it's classic shape, mix of materials and geometric perforations it is completely on trend for this season, and will accessorize a number of outfits perfectly.
Phew! I hope that was helpful my lovelies! Stay tuned for the next installments in this series - For Him and For YOU! Hope you are all well and looking after yourselves :).

Holiday Party Round-Up: Nick Verreos Attends the E! Entertainment Holiday Party in Westwood, CA!

Doughnuts, In-n-Out Burgers, Desserts Galore, Open Bars...and LOTS o' Taxi's!!!

We Need To Stop Meeting Like This: Kit Scarbo (stylist extraordinaire and Season 4 Project Runway Alumna), and Nick Verreos, E! Entertainment 2010 Holiday Party

Yes kids, it's the Holiday Season, and that means one thing here in LA-LA land: Holiday Parties!!! This last week, I got invited to the E! Entertainment Holiday Bash--for the FIRST TIME! I brought along my NIKOLAKI partner David Paul with me naturally. The party was being held in Westwood near my old "stompin' grounds": UCLA. I attended the University of California, Los Angeles and got my B.A. in (wait for it!) Political Science/International Relations many, many moons ago, before I went on to pursue my real love: FASHION!

Oscar Girls: Former E! host Debbie Matenopulos, Nick Verreos and Kim Kardashian, 2008 Pre-Oscar's Show

As you may know, I have been on E! several times, including the time I did the Pre-Oscar Show with then on-air personality Debbie Matenopulos as well as (Wait For It Part Two!), La Kim Kardashian. I've also recently been filming episodes of Style Network's "Style Star", a show about celebs and their fashion style. In fact, I just found out that "Style Star" is airing on E! International and will begin airing domestically on the Style Network in early 2011!! To make a long story LONGER...an executive from the show was kind enough to invite me to the E! Holiday Party (Yeayyy!!!).

SO...let's get to the PARTY. A full-on parking-lot sized tent was set up (see photo above) near the UCLA campus, for this fabulous E! Entertainment Holiday Party. Inside, there were hundreds--if not thousands of guests, mingling and in their out-of-work/cocktail-attire finest, enjoying the immensity of it all.

Many Open Bars were set up--fully stocked--to serve everyone. There were A LOT of Dessert Tables framing the inside of the tented soiree, with many sweet goodies, including:

Oversized cookies, lollipops, chocolate-covered EVERYTHING, peanut brittle, fresh fruits and...
Smore's Parfait's (they were DELICIOUS, David let me taste his!). Waiters passed around an unending amount of In-N-Out Burgers as well, for those who maybe needed a respite from all the sugar. Speaking of (more) sugar, I made it outside to "get some air" and lo and behold, I was stopped by a Doughnut Wall! Yes, you read right: There was a wall with fresh glazed doughnuts waiting for the guests to start pickin'.

Doughnut Picking: Nick Verreos at the E! Entertainment 2010 Holiday Party "Doughnut Wall"

Once I got done with the In-N-Out burgers and the doughnuts, I began really enjoying myself. I did not see Miss Kim K. or Chelsea Handler or Ryan Seacrest, but...I did run into my Project Runway "sister", the lovely and very stylish Kit Scarbo (as you can see from the photo at the beginning of this post).

I ran into comedienne Loni Love, whom I had recently worked with on Logo's "Gossip Queens" TV Show (she was SOOO sweet!), and saw fellow Style Network "Style Star" commentator Marcella Reynolds as well as frequent E!'s "Daily 10" style expert, Amanda Luttrell Garrigus.

E! Fashionistas: Nick Verreos poses with guests (and E!/Style Network "Style Star" Mini-Divas!) Audrey Angulo and Raika Khosravi, E! Entertainment 2010 Holiday Party

I had an amazing time, but soon enough, it was time to go, and as David and I made our way out, we spotted many, many Taxi Cabs waiting...Oh did I mention: E! made sure to give out Taxi Cab Vouchers so people could get home safely...I know, they think of EVERYTHING! These people really know how to throw a Holiday Party!

Happy Holidays Y'all!

Nick Verreos "Hearts" the Radio City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular!!

X-mas High Kicking It With The Rockettes...
And...Kick: Nick Verreos and The Rockettes, at FIDM/Grand Hope Park in August 2010

Back in August, while The Rockettes were touring the country promoting their annual Radio City Christmas Spectacular Show, they visited Los Angeles and made a pit stop at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising LA Campus. I had the pleasure of "hosting" them at a fun event titled "High Kicking With Nick", in which we had a VIP Costume Show, where four of The Rockettes showed--up close and personal--some of the marvelous and iconic costumes. I also got to do some High Kicks with them, as well as over 200 of our "closest" friends, at FIDM-adjacent Grand Hope Park.

Nokia Theater Fan: Nick Verreos inside the Nokia Theater, Radio City Christmas Spectacular Opening Night Performance

Well, cut to last Friday and The Rockettes were BACK--to do their Radio City Christmas Spectacular Show at the Nokia Theater L.A. Live. They were generous enough to invite myself and my NIKOLAKI partner David Paul to the "Opening Night". Believe it or not, I had NEVER seen an actual Rockettes Show, much less THE famous Christmas Spectacular so, of course, I canceled everything else I had that evening and headed to Downtown LA.

Happy Downtown LA Holidays: David Paul and Nick Verreos, L.A. Live Entertainment Complex

I hadn't been to the Staples/Nokia/"LA Live" Entertainment Complex in a while (not since I attended the World Championships of Figure Skating at the Staples in March 2009) and I certainly had never really gone there on a Friday Night...but KIDS: The place was CRAZY!! I guess I am LATE but I never knew that this has now become the new "Universal City Walk" of LA!

Walking into the nucleus of it all, there were all these new restaurants, bars/nightclubs, hundreds and hundreds of people walking around (NO ONE EVER used to be here in Downtown LA five years ago--and especially after 6PM!) and there was even a Skating Rink! Hello, Nick is HOME!!

Skating Under The Stars: Nick Verreos poses by The L.A. Live Skating Rink, Downtown LA

Now,let's get to the reason we were there: The Radio City Christmas Spectacular Show. One Word: AMAZING!!!!
It's one thing high-kicking with four of these leggy DIVAS in a park Downtown, but it's a WHOLE OTHER thing seeing ALL of them in their perfectly choreographed numbers on a HUGE stage like the Nokia Theater. Every section of the show was entertaining. I loved The "Nutcraker Suite" with Dancing Bears (how they can kick so high in all that fur??) and...

The famed Toy Soldier number, with its INCREDIBLE footwork, was one of my favorites as well. The section of the show where the Biblical Magi pay their visit to the newly born Jesus offering gifts was visually stunning; the intricately ornate costumes of The Three Wise Kings left us awestruck!

One of the highlights of the entire Radio City Christmas Spectacular was the Touring Through NYC Landmarks Bus Ride. This truly was UNBELIEVABLE: The way the Double-Decker bus turned and the changing views of the Big Apple, was fabulous! One almost felt as they were following them on another Double-Decker bus!!! I'm sure I'm not the first to say this, but this really is a not-to-be-missed show! So if the Rockettes come to your town, in their candy-cane costumes, I think you know what to do!

Happy High Kicking Holidays!!!

Nick Verreos Figure Skating Fashion Blog UniversalSports.com: Grand Prix Finals Best and Worst!!

A GRAND Grand Prix: My Best and Worst...with "Professor Nick Costume Grades"!

Linear Tango: Davis and White of the US, ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals, Beijing China

This past weekend was the 2010 ISU Grand Prix Finals of Figure Skating in Beijing China at the Beijing Capital Gymnasium. Thank goodness for Universal Sports and NBC because I got to watch the entire event from the comfort of my home back in Los Angeles! So, yes, the Grand Prix series is over--for this year--and as you may know, I have had the pleasure of critiquing the costumes for UniversalSports.com and their Figure Skating Blog "Go Figure" (love that!).

So, for my “Figure Skating Costumes Two Cents” blog, I thought I would do a “Best” and “Worst” of the Season, in terms of the costumes of course. And since--besides being a Fashion Designer--I am also an Instructor at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM here in LA, I thought it would be perfect to also give these "Best" and "Worst" Grand Prix costumes my "Professor Verreos Fashion Grades”...

Lilac Lift: Pang Qing and Tong Jian of China at the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals, Beijing China

But First: Even at this Grand Prix Finals, after traveling across the Globe to four different continents for all the various Grand Prix Competitions, there were still some skaters changing up their costumes, and in the case of Japanese Figure Skater Miki Ando, a whole new Short Program!! Here are some Examples of the Last Minute Costume Switcheroo's:

Why The Change: In Beijing this past weekend, Miki Ando skated a new Short Program to "Broken Sorrow Egyptian in the Night" and Gabriel's Oboe The Falls. I loved this new ivory lightly beaded costume. Miki loves a PLUNGING back and this one had it! It was interesting in that (correct me if I am wrong), but I don't think the back was even covered in the typical nude illusion but it was actually just bare! If so, she SERIOUSLY must have had A LOT of double-stick tape! It was a prettier and softer Miki, but I wasn't a huge fan of the bell sleeves and also the length of the skirt was too long. I personally didn't have a problem with her other Short Program Costume--or her other Short Program for that matter--so I am still confused as to why she even changed it! I think she's also realizing she shouldn't have changed anything since she didn't do so well.

Fringe Couture: Another Japanese Skater, Daisuke Takahashi busted out a new Short Program costume. If you look close, he KEPT the same pants but switched the top. The new top was black, instead of lipstick red, and featured fringe. I love Takahashi because in terms of costumes, he just "goes for it" and understands the importance of costume as an integral part of the entire performance although I do prefer him with the slicked back hair.

Fiercer Vest: In his new Long Program, Takahashi also changed his top but kept the old black stretch velvet pants. The new top included a black shirt with beaded black vest. I like this new one much better than the magenta and lace one he wore before (on the left). It looks more modern, more "fashionable", and shall I even say, fiercer (sorry, I know, that word is TIRED) although 2 black costumes is a bit repetitive for my taste.

Now, let's get to my "Best" and "Worst" of the entire Grand Prix of Figure Skating 2010--Below is an "Amuse Bouche" of my List--one for each category...

BEST:

Modern Razzle Dazzle: Our US “Golden Girl”, Alyssa Czisny dazzled on the ice taking the Top Spot for her skating, and in addition, I give her my “Nick Verreos Gold Medal” for her costumes. Both her Short and Free Program choices reflect where Ladies Figure Skating Costumes should head for the future. They were directional, fluid, and feminine and gave a nod to actual fashion trends (the asymmetrical neckline, under-bust beading, strong color) and in addition, they could remarkably, go from the Ice to an Awards Show Red Carpet--with just a change of a skirt! Grade: A

WORST:

Dingle-ball Witch: When I first saw Russian Figure Skater Alena Leonova in BOTH her Short (L) and Long Program (R) Costumes, I yelled “Oh Dear!” Now, I’m not a Professional Judge of Figure Skating, but I’m pretty sure, those are not the words one wants to hear when they first step on the ice. I know that her Themes involved Polka/Circus and “Witches of Eastwick” but that still didn’t excuse the dingle-balls, the $1.99 Diamante trim, the BEIGE ice skates (not a fan!), black gloves with painted nails (I swear!) and the 1976 Nadia Comaneci hair-DON’T. Cirque du Soleil: Yes. Grand Prix of Figure Skating: NYET! Grade: D

Liz Earle Signature Facial Secrets

A few weeks ago I was treated to a Liz Earle Signature facial. After hearing from Liz about how wonderful it is, and that even she struggles to get an appointment as they are so popular, I was excited to say the least. After a long Friday at work I was definitely ready to start the weekend with a little pampering!

The signature facial took place in the Liz Earle treatment rooms in their flagship store, just off the King's Road. The first step was to fill in a short form about what I wanted from my facial and any skin concerns I had, as well as a few select questions about my diet and beauty routine, and the products I relied on.
After taking a second to change into one of their soft dressing gowns, and getting tucked into what can only be described as a (heated!) bed, I was already feeling relaxed.  The first part of the luxurious 90 minute treatment was a double cleanse with Cleanse & Polish (to remove makeup and deep cleanse). My tired eyes were then revived with the Eyebright soothing lotion. As I had complained about some dry patches around my nose Jo also used the gentle exfoliator all over my face, neck, and upper chest. She then performed a lymphatic drainage massage using plant oils and superskin concentrate.

At this point I was so relaxed with the heat, the music and the calming aura in the room that I almost fell asleep! This has never happened to me before as I often find facials a little nerve racking. On many occasions the products used have reacted badly with my sensitive skin and even caused stinging and burning, so I am always wary. As I already use much of the Liz Earle range I was confident that this would not be the case, especially as we discussed my skin type and areas I wanted to see improvement in (tone, blocked pores around the nose, oiliness and blemishes - not asking much then!). Jo also went through the products she was using during the facial and as she could see my skin was sensitive chose to skip the brightening treatment mask (one of the products that does burn a little), so I was happy to see that she was tailoring the treatment to my skin as well as my 'needs', and not following a set formula as many beauticians do.

While the products were soaking in she treated me to a hand, arm and shoulder massage. I was struggling to stay awake when she used the steam to prepare my skin for extraction. Now this is an area of a facial I usually find awkward and painful, but grit my teeth as I don't want to look like a wimp. Jo was very careful and it didn't hurt at all. After my pores had been cleared she used an ozone treatment (I have no idea what this is officially called lol). The ozone is meant to sterilise and aid healing. Oh, how I wish I had one at home! My skin heals very slowly, and I mean very slowly. If I have a cut or a scar from a blemish it usually lasts weeks and takes months to even begin to fade. The blemishes that Jo treated healed within days!

After some skin repair moisturiser and a little more massage the treatment was over and I have to confess that after Jo left me to get dressed I stayed wrapped up for a minute or two not wanting to move. The real magic came when I looked in the mirror. After the 'extraction' I was expecting some red patches that would take a while to fade, but instead my face was (dare I say it) glowing. There was no redness in sight and my skin looked clear and even. I was so happy I ventured out to dinner straight after with not a scrap of makeup on (well, do we count mascara?). Even the bf commented on how healthy I was looking! I would never normally be brave enough to do this, so it is a real testament to the products and Jo's magic.

Jo was kind enough to send me a personalsied skincare guide a few days later so I could recreate the treatment at home. Now, I won't lie to you and say that I have completely stuck to it, but I have done my best and have seen good results. Are you interested in learning her secrets? Luckily, Jo has given me permission to share my plan with all my lovely readers! So here is the first part and if you want to know more just leave me a comment and I will write a follow up post :).

Lymphatic Drainage Massage Routine
(This application can be used with Liz Earle skincare and any plant oils)

Warm product between hands, and pat onto your face and neck.  Massage with flat palm, fingers together, circle down (3-6 times each side), each side of the neck (right hand on left side and vice versa). This will open up the lymph channels to oxygenate the skin. Continue onto the face and massage outwards along the jaw line (3-6 times each side), then either side of the nose downwards (3-6 times each side), to the sides of the mouth. Continue with 3-6 complete circles around the eyes draining upwards from the corners of the inner eyebrow outwards. Finish with circles up and out over the forehead towards the temples.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Liz Earle Signature Facial and the way it made my skin look and feel. It was the perfect pampering treat and I am now in the process of getting another appointment. I feel my skin will be in dire need come January after my ski trip and all this mulled wine... if only they had a similar treatment for my liver ;).

At £85 for 90 minutes I think it is well worth it too. If my mama lived in England this would definitely be part of her present this Christmas (and I know she is reading this and probably calling me now to tell me she still wants me too book her one hehe). If you are interested in finding out more or treating yourself, or a loved one, to the most luxurious, relaxing facial you can find more information on the Liz Earle site here. Enjoy! xxx

Ready For Las Vegas Trip....a DIY before I go!!

I found Oscar de la Renta earrings at their website. I was so anxious to see it in person that I decided to pay overnight shipping. I am quite satisfied w/ its' statement look which not only it is exactly as what I had expected and even better, it also matches my J Crew-find green glass cuff perfectly!!

My friend, Isabel, laughed when she heard that I want to match Oscar de la Renta w/ my J Crew bangle. Well, yeah, but why not, we always mix high and low.... stuff like that as long as the results are looking fabulous!

Again, ouch*~ it is not very cheap. If someone told me that they can find similar earrings at a flea market, I'd say, go for it!! ^O^

This will be the outfit for our girls' first night dining at Guy Savoy!!

I love the super fitted look of this dress from Aqua.  I saved it for special occasions like our girls Vegas trip this coming Sat.

I love all Victoria Beckham's sheath/LBD designs but feel a bit intimating w/ its crazy price. Now I have to share w/ you those Aqua dresses based in London/British. Their dresses are  super sexy, and also a practical alternative to be wore to any occasion, may it be a wedding or a prom. Besides, they are relatively cheap.... mine is only Euro 50!!!
Check their site and I am sure you will love it!!!

Photobucket
I also love this one.... on sale for Euro 40!

Onto another Vegas outfit!
Photobucket
Don't you just love those vivid glass beads and vintage green ones?!

Photobucket
Remember Sonia Rykiel pour HM~
Yu reminds me of mine - hot pink dresses! You know Vegas is the perfect place to wear something fun and fancy!! :)

Chanel tweed/fur tall boots are on sale now and I am glad that I did price adjustment for them. Yeah~

I am bringing them to Vegas this time...(hopefully there is not much rain) and before I go, I did a fun DIY at home yesterday just to keep this boots company. ^O^
Photobucket
I love everything w/ waist details....such as peplum, and this one, tuxedo look of a tail!

Photobucket
On me: Max Co. nude blouse, Wilfred floral cami. underneath, J Crew mustard green cardi. All saints smoke brocade leather jacket/tailcoat, Helmut Lang suede burgundy skinny pants, Chanel 11' cruise matte gold CC brooch w/ pearls embellishment, Chanel 10A brown tweed tall boots w/ fur.

**NOTE: I just found that we have All Saints boutique in union square at San Francisco last Sat. haha.... I went all the way to London to buy this leather jacket! However, it is sold Euro 450 in London whilst we sell for $790. After plus the tax, and refund the tax in London, I bought it cheaper for $200 or so in London....not so bad!!

It has been a while since the last time I used my sewing machine. It does come in handy whenever I had a small DIY project in mind.
Photobucket

Photobucket
I made a double sides hand-warmer!! This way, you can have your hands free all the time w/o the hassles of putting on and taking your gloves off.

Photobucket
I adore this brown furry side to go w/ my Chanel brown tweed boots!!

Gotta a plan for Christmas?
Have fun no matter what!

Review of Prestige My Biggest Lashes Mascara

Although I love high end mascaras like YSL Singulier or YSL Faux Cils, I'm also a fan of quite a few drugstore/pharmacy brands as well such as Maxfactor Calorie 2000 or Loreal Double Extension.  Who isn't up for a cheaper mascara that does what it says on the tin?  Don't be fooled into thinking that you always have to spend a wad of cash to get results.

I recently tried Prestige My Biggest Lashes Mascara in Very Black and I was really surprised at how much I liked it considering it's only £6.49!

Let's look at the packaging...bright pink and black...gets my vote! Next up is the name.  It says everything it needs to really and promises to deliver your "thickest, longest, biggest lashes ever!".  Like the sound of that? Er, yes! I'm always looking out for new ways to make the most of my lashes since I am quite possibly the most useless person at putting on false lashes.  Some people just can't drive, just can't swim or just can't whistle with their fingers in their mouth...well, I can't put on falsies!  I end up getting so annoyed, I end up ripping them off and starting my eye makeup again.

The wand is what you would expect of a mascara promising superb volume.  It's rather large with a tapered tip to grab the smaller lashes.   The mascara is said to be anti-clump, anti-flake and anti-smudge and I can confirm that they are absolutely correct on all three.  This mascara feels very high quality to me which is seldom the case with mascaras that cost less than £7.00!

I was really pleased with this mascara because it gave me really healthy looking lashes for the daytime without making them look clumpy or too heavy.  I don't my mascaras to be too full on in the harsh light of day because I'm chanelling a look that should say "I didn't spend 20 mins applying makeup, I just look like this naturally"...ha ha...yeah right!  I always laugh when guys ASK if you're wearing makeup...I mean, generally, women can tell at 10 paces whether someone is wearing makeup but guys are just clueless.  It's like when I used to work for a bank, one of my colleagues asked if I was from Scandanavian decent given that I had blonde hair, blue eyes and slightly tanned skin...I don't think he had ever heard of highlights or fake tan!  Bless him!

Anyways, I digress...back to the review! I really like this mascara because it gave my lashes lots of volume and length with two coats, it didn't clump, it stayed put all day and it was really easy to take off at night.  It's ideal for anyone who likes their lashes to have volume but also good separation between individual lashes too.  It's great if you're looking for an affordable mascara that will deliver great results akin to the higher end products.

On a different subject...you know my posts by now and they're NEVER just about one thing! I always loved this dress that Lauren Conrad wore a while back...

I found an almost exact copy of this dress on the Rise Fashion website for £35.00 so I ordered it today...

I am curious to see what the quality of the fabric will be like for that price so I will post on it when it arrives.  I will also let you know what the customer service/delivery time is like.  It's always handy to get a heads up on these things when you are unfamiliar with a company.

I would like to share another Ellie Goulding gem with you guys but this time it's her chilled out version of Rihanna's 'Only Girl In The World' that she performed for the Radio 1 Live Lounge.  I love the Live Lounge performances, especially when artists/bands cover a well known, current song.  Sometimes, it can surprise you how well a song can work when it's in a different genre.

I remember when Travis did a cover of Britney's 'Hit Me Baby One More Time'...genius!
