TV Guide Network's "2011 Screen Actors Guild Fashion Wrap": Nick Verreos Recap + Entire Video of show!!!

SAG Awards-FABULOUS...

Fashion Wrap Couch Mates: (L to R) Nick Verreos, Jen Rade, Kim Vo, Kara Birkenstock, Lawrence Zarian

Well kids, Monday--less than 24 hours after it happened--I was invited to join the "illustrious" panel of experts for our TV Guide SAG Awards Fashion Wrap, where we rate the Best, Worst Dressed, the hair, the make up, the shoes...you get the picture. No SAG Awards "Red Carpet Stone" is left unturned.

Once again, joining in on the fun was our Host, TV Guide Fashion Guy, Lawrence Zarian--who was actually working ON THE RED CARPET the night before--plus Hair Color DIVA Kim Vo, Shoe Expert, the very leg-o-licious Kara Birkenstock and last but not least, my next-to-me seatmate, the lovely UBER stylist Jen Rade. Jen was wearing head-to-toe H&M and looked FABUOLOUS: Her double zero (I'm jealous!) body looked amazing in those off-white palazzo's and tucked-in blouse.

The set, once again, was modern and fresh, including this divine black leather couch (from HD Buttercup, one of my favorite furniture stores in LA) and I especially loved the table above with that GORGEOUS Orchid bouquet display!

Sitting Pretty: Nick Verreos on the TV Guide Fashion Wrap set, TV Guide Network Studios

We had so much fun DISHING on all the Screen Actors Guild Awards Red Carpet. I just LOVE been with this TV Guide "funky bunch"! This was one of our best! We agreed on a lot of the Red Carpet styles (Big Improvement Miss Tina Fey! We "Heart" you!) as well as disagreed naturally (watch below and you'll see! OH Angie Harmon...)

In case you missed the Debut of the TV Guide 2011 SAG Awards Fashion Wrap" on Monday night...well, you're in luck:

Nick Verreos Rates the Figure Skating Costumes: U.S. Nationals 2011--The Men & my UniversalSports.com Figure Skating Blog!

Oh Boy!
Le Men: (Left to Right) Richard Dornbush, Gold Medalist Ryan Bradley, Ross Miner and Jeremy Abbott, 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships

Last week, the 2011 U.S Figure Skating Championships occurred in Greensboro, North Carolina and I talked about the Ladies, Pairs and Ice Dance Costumes HERE--but I didn't want to leave the Men behind...So now, here goes MY MEN...well, my "Nick V. Figure Skating Costumes Two Cents" on what the top competing men wore.

Let's begin with two-time U.S. National Champion Jeremy Abbott:

Jeremy Abbott: Short Program

For his Short Program, Jeremy Abbott skated to "Viejos Aires"--a Tango. I like seeing the non-vest-and-pin-striped-trouser Jeremy so it's "refreshing" when he does this "costumey" short program. There's a little "Victor/Victoria"--or is it "Victor/Victor" element to it with the half vest/half jacket look but, it works. I also love that he really embraces the entire ensemble--from head to toe--and even slicks his hair in an intense manner, to match the intensity of the sequined black and white costume as well as the powerful Tango program.

Jeremy Abbott: Long Program

For his Long Program, he skates to "Life Is Beautiful" and yes, it's a little yawn-inducing but I like the subtle sequins in the plaid vest and I have to concur that for that music, the costume works. I guess the Fashion Designer in me would love to see...well, a little more but I understand what he was going for.

Richard Dornbush: 2011 US National Silver Medalist

Richard skated to "Sherlock Holmes" and his costume reflected this: The ubiquitous vest (this is really THE staple go-to piece for Male Figure Skaters!). I liked the tie, and the contrasting patterns. He's young and anything more flashy would not be right. Thank Goodness, the sleeves were fitted and modern as opposed to some big ol' Leg-o'Mutton Blouson Sleeves he could have gone with. He had a PHENOMENAL night, so really everything else is just secondary!

Ross Miner: 2011 US National Bronze Medalist

Ross skated (beautifully I might add--one of my favorites!) to "Casablanca" and honestly this was a definite yawn of a costume. I don't want him to look like a Moroccan Souk Rug Salesman, but I also don't like him looking like part of the Catering team at someone's Bar Mitzvah! Although he did accent the crisp white shirt with some fabulous cuff links, I really want him to spice it up next time (costume wise)...just a little bit!

Keegan Messing: Long Program

OK, now here's someone who tried to "spice it up", but it didn't work. Poor Keegan. He skated to "The Hulk" but his costume was more Cirque Du Soleil...on a budget! It failed on all levels. It looks as if he went to "Hollywood Toys and Costume" on Hollywood Blvd. and bought a costume in a bag. And then decided to wear it...to the U.S. Nationals! The top did not go with the pants and that brown (?) belt with the silver diamante buckle further dumbfounded me.

But now...
Ryan Bradley: 2011 US Nationals Gold Medalist

Ryan won the Gold and became the "Comeback Kid" of the 2011 U.S. Nationals! I absolutely ADORE him! He is my new secret crush! (well, not so secret now). He could wear a Garbage Bag as a costume and I would be like "You Go Ryan!". For his Long Program, he skated to an "Amadeus/Mozart Medley" wearing a ruffled neckline blouse, fitted jacket/brocade vest and very fitted pants. It was "Amadeus: The Hot Calendar Guy" version! I, personally, would have taken this look even further and been even more playful giving him a real foppish quality to his costume, but like I said, he can do no wrong in my book!

Ryan Bradley: Short Program

Now, speaking of HOT: Ryan Bradley in his "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" ensemble, which he wore when he brought the house down skating to his Short Program. This was my FAVORITE costume for ALL the men skaters! Now THIS is how you do ARMY. If this is what the Recruits/ROTC would have dressed like in high school...huney, then I might have skipped UCLA and my Fashion Design studies and signed up!

Boogie Woogie Ryan

Ryan gets my "At-a-Boy Nick Verreos Figure Skating Costume Fashion Gold Medal" of the 2011 U.S. Nationals for this fabulous sexy yet still somewhat traditional, but still "campy" (in it's own very TIGHT stretch woven fabric sort of way). I'm sure lots of girls in the audience wanted to put on a 40's snood, a fitted jacket and A-line skirt and do the Boogie Woogie with him after they saw this! Thank you Ryan for "bringing it"--in your wonderful skating, as well as in your costumes!

Eyeko Big Eyes Mascara

The search for the perfect mascara is a quest that every woman embarks on. I am yet to find the ideal, though some have come close!  Recently I have been testing out the Eyeko Big Eyes mascara RRP £8.50.
When this sample first arrived at my door I wasn't too sure what to expect. Firstly this mascara stands out as it is packaged in a squeezable tube, more like a lipbalm or toothpaste than a mascara. I think this is a great idea, many a morning have I spent pumping and wriggling dried up mascara in the hopes of
scraping some off the sides; with this you can just squeeze the tube so none is wasted. The brush is pretty thin, with loosely packed spiral bristles. This is great for precision and grabbing every lash, as well as the bottom lashes. However, as the formula of this mascara is rather 'wet' it doesn't separate the lashes well enough and they do tend to stick together and can look a bit clumpy. To overcome this problem I have been using it with a different wand (L'ancome Hypnose) and with a more dense brush it works perfectly. I think that given a few weeks the Eyeko brush could work well too as the mascara starts to thicken a little as it dries.

As you can see the formula is a fantastic deep black, and the mascara does lengthen and volumise, while retaining the natural curl to my lashes. The above was taken after 2 coats.

The Eyeko mascara lasts well throughout the day without flaking or smudging, though it can be a little difficult to remove as it disintegrates into pieces, rather than dissolving. As far as drugstore mascaras go I do think it's a good formulation if you are looking for a dramatic lash look, I just wish the brush was fuller so it would separate my lashes.  Have you tried Eyeko's Big Eyes Mascara? Let me know what you think! xx

Liparazzi's Favourites: L'Oreal & A New Girl Crush

So it's time for another post to highlight which products I use the most and love from different brands.  This week the spotlight is on L'Oreal.

The L'Oreal Studio Secrets Smoothing Resurfacing Primer is without doubt the best primer I own because it single-handedly smoothes out my complexion, evens out my skintone, helps my foundation application and makes my makeup last longer.  Put in the simplest terms...it just makes my skin look flawless after I have applied my makeup.  I love the marshmallow, spongey consistency as it's unlike any other primer I have tried.  You only need a very small amount and it's best to apply a very thin layer, blending thoroughly.  I highly recommend this if you are looking to try an affordable and effective primer.

I always like to prime my eyelashes before applying mascara to ensure I get the thickest, fullest lashes possible.  My lash primer of choice is the L'Oreal Studio Secrets Lash Primer.  Some lash primers can actually make mascara application tricky when they dry too quickly and you end up with the dreaded spidery look.  However, this primer stays tacky long enough to pop any mascara over the top and create really fluttery, full lashes.  I only apply one layer of the primer and it's important to wiggle it into the roots of the lashes to make sure you are getting the best results.  I am rubbish at applying false lashes so I really depend on products like these to make the most of my natural lashes!

Together with Maxfactor Calorie 2000 mascara, I think L'Oreal's Voluminous Carbon Black mascara is one of the very best drugstore affordable mascaras.  It gives a whole load of volume in just two coats and when layered over the L'Oreal Lash Primer, it makes a huge difference and really opens my eyes up.  I don't apply this mascara to my bottom lashes because I find it can smudge slightly in the outer corners but it's perfect if you just like mascara on your top lashes.  This mascara never flakes on me and it creates that separated, volumised look that I love.  This is also a big favourite of Tali over at The Gloss Goss, you can read her post about it here.

I really like the L'Oreal Color Appeal Platinum and Holographic Eyeshadows because they have amazing pigmentation, they blend out beautifully, they have the prettiest sheen to them and they really last.  These two shades above (Real Silver 150 & Astral Taupe 115) are the perfect base for a smokey eye or a warm toned, summery look.  Love them!

L'Oreal Glam Shine Glosses are a fantastic example of a line of lip products which are totally accessible, affordable and with a wide range of colours to suit everyone.  I have shown my favourite shades above (the first three are Glam Shine Reflection and the last two are Glam Shine Natural Glow).  I love the shape of the applicator and the fact that there are different finishes to all the shades.

The first three shades above are sheer and juicy looking with teeny tiny shimmer particles, whilst the Natural Glow glosses have more of a pearlised finish.  The jucier shades are PERFECT colours for summer, the peach would look amazing against a tan!

When I get dressed up and go somewhere special or on a girl's night out, I like to look really polished.  This applies to my makeup, my hair and my skin.  When it comes to the skin on their bodies, almost everyone has uneven skintone, blemishes, scars and visible veins.  I have always used fake tan to even out my skintone but I wanted the look that girl's had in photoshoots and music videos.  That means applying some kind of body foundation and/or illuminating products to make your skin look flawless all over.  I love Mac's Face and Body Foundation for use on my legs, together with Mac Strobe Cream down my thighs and shins to make them look slimmer.  BUT a great drugstore alternative to that is L'Oreal's Glam Bronze Micro-Fine Foundation Spray for legs.  I find that these sprays can cause a whole load of mess so I spray it directly into my hands and blend it in.  This product is only £9.99 for a 150ml can so it's alot more affordable than buying a Mac product on a regular basis (which is £23.50).  You can just use any highlighter down your legs to make them look slender.   This product makes you legs look absolutely flawless!

Similarly, the L'Oreal Sublime Bronze One Day Tinted Gel Bronzed Glow is a great product when you need a serious tan boost on your legs/body.  You can just quickly apply it, blend it and it just washes off at the end of the night but be careful if it's raining outside! You don't want it running down your legs...that would be a SLIGHT giveaway!ha ha.  This is my emergency product when my legs are looking sad and pasty.

So those are my favourite L'Oreal products! I would love to know if you have any recommendations for this brand?

I officially have a new girl crush in the form of Emily DiDonato, a 20 year old American model who has featured in campaigns for Maybelline, Vistoria's Secret, Guess, Ralph Lauren and in 2010 she became the face of Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gioia perfume.

She is of Irish and Italian ancestry which lend her an exotic look!  Her electric blue eyes are just incredible and look amazing against her brunette locks and olive skin.

I absolutely LOVE this makeup....

I was listening to this song last night when I was in a really chilled out mood.  It's one of those tunes that is PERFECT for when you are in the bath or on a sunday afternoon while you're milling around the house doing nothing much.  It's by a singer called Rumer and the song is called 'Slow'.  I love how she sounds like Karen Carpenter and Dusty Springfield.
