Effortless Casual Chic + YSL 09' runway elastic booties!!

vAfter we had dinner w/ friends, I quickly packed some very light clothes and BIG warm coats!! My friends including you fab. girls live in south Cal. keep telling me that it is so warm in LA. And all I need is a pair of SANDALS!!! Absolutely no need to bring boots at all!!! Ok, that just sound very disappointing cause' I am a boots gal in winter......... :(

Anyway, Yu and I scheduled that we should leave home at 6:00 AM to avoid the traffic!! I am waiting for the laundry while blogging at the same time.  I'd like to leave home w/ no left-over in the fridge, no trash, and no dirty laundry cause' when we come back home, I can be relaxed mentally and not being stressed out by thinking of all the un-done house chores!!

This is what I think : ----- Leave Home Happy, and Come Back Home Happy!! ------- :)

Ok, back to today's business!
I found two cardigans in Anthro. last week and they are great candidates for the look we saw in Nordi. However, they only have size L left for Navy, and size S left for Orange!!

This one is size Large and two sleeves are overwhelming on my frame, however, that is just what I want a slightly slouchy look on me!

This is size Small which fits perfectly on me but I bought the large Navy one instead!!

I cinch the cardigan and like the style very much!

Here is the look I copied today!!

This is the final ideal look!!

My ODJ

1. TOP:
  • Splendid shirt w/ one pocket $68
  • Big knitting cardigan (Anthro.) for $89
2. Bottom: TSE high waist tapered wool pants (bought last year)
3. Accessory:
  • white knitting scarf w/ sequins
  • Flying Lizard Design necklace
  • Chanel 08' perforated Rodeo Drive large tote
4. Shoes: YSL 09' runway elastic band booties

I love the striped scarf and it adds fun to my outfit!

I use safety pins to make cuffs on both sleeves: 1. to shorten the sleeves 2. so the too large cardigan would look proportioned on me

Biore Skincare Review

For the last couple of weeks I have been testing out a few products that were sent to me by Biore. I had previously seen this brand in Boots, but never tried any of their products so was keen to see how they would work with my skin.

First up I tried their daily deep pore cleansing wipes.

These wipes are textured to provide gentle exfoliation and clean deep down into the pores. Biore claim that they remove oil, dirt, and make-up - even waterproof mascara.

You get 25 good size wipes in a pack for a reasonable price, but this is where the positives end.

Although, I like the idea of them being textured since they are a little on the dry side you have to rub at your skin a lot more to remove makeup, and this can lead to irritation. The first time I used these I noticed they had a very pungent scent of alcohol. They also really stung my eyes when I tried to remove my eye makeup, though surprisingly the wipe only smeared most of it, and barely touched my mascara.

After looking at the list of ingredients I realised that after water the second ingredient was alcohol denat. No wonder my eyes were hurting and sore! I would never recommend anyone to use makeup remover with alcohol around the eye area, and yet this product claims to remove waterproof mascara (it really doesn't!).

In the name of research I foolishly tried these again, though keeping them far away from my eyes. Though they did do a pretty good job of removing face makeup they once again left my skin red and irritated. In the morning I also noticed that my face was extremely oily, probably due to the wipes being too harsh and stripping my skin of all its natural oils. We all know this only causes one thing- more oil production and clogged pores! I will therefore be sticking to my super mild Johnson's wipes from now on :).

The second product that I have been trialing is Biore's deep cleansing pore strips:

These are meant to instantly pull away oil and dirt build-up as well as blackheads in one use. Each pack comes with 6 strips, which should be used about twice a week. They are pretty simple to use, you just wet the skin on your nose, stick the strip on and leave it to dry for 10-15 minutes. After this comes the excruciating pain of peeling it off. Now, I am not one to complain about pain being the price for beauty (far from it!), but these really do hurt, especially if you have sensitive skin.

I won't scar you all with an image of a used strip, but I will describe exactly what it removed. First off, as you can imagine when you are peeling something that has been firmly stuck for 15 minutes you are definitely going to remove a layer of skin. I think this is actually a plus as if you have any dry areas on the nose these will be lifted in a much more effective way than with a scrub. However, this does leave the nose very red afterwards, so it's deffinitely a treatment to use at night, and not before dashing out into public looking like Rudolph.

The other thing that this strip removes very efficiently is the teeny tiny white hairs that everyone has on their face. You may not think you have any, but if you look really closely you will see a miniscule amount of baby fuzz. This is probably not what Biore intended these strips to do, but it does make the area look and feel slightly smoother. Apparently some celebrities get their whole faces waxed to make them look smooth, so perhaps there is something in it.

Unfortunately, these strips didn't remove many blackheads, about 5 per use. I think (and how can I phrase this in a pleasant way) these could have been 'exctracted' manually much quicker and with a lot less pain. Then again, the pores on my nose are really not all that big, and the only blackheads I have are in the creases on the sides of my nose, so this area is difficult for the pore strip to stick to efficiently.

Overall, I think these could work for you if you have large pores and mainly blackheads running through the centre of your nose.. or else if you fancied an at home face wax ;).

Sorry for the rambling.. it is late, and I hope that this review was helpful to some of you!!

Nick Verreos LOVES The Pelican Hill Resort

Resort Rewind...OC Style!Welcome to your Bungalow: Nick Verreos stands in the entrance of his one-night Bungalow

About two months ago, I was invited to Irvine, CA on two occasions within the same week: First to do a LIVE segment promoting Style Week OC on Good Day LA TV Show and then, to host Style Week Orange County 2009 and judge the fabulous Ezekiel Needle and Thread Competition. Bienvenue: David Paul at the entrance of one of the Pelican Hill Resort Bungalows

Both separate times, the clients put myself and my trusty NIKOLAKI design partner--and unofficial president of the "Nick Verreos Fanclub"--David Paul, in the most GORGEOUS Pelican Hill Resort. I have been waiting for the right time to get in a "resort feeling" to show some of the photos here on my blog--and no better time than now, during the Thanksgiving Weekend when all your are supposed to do is relax and do nothing. I wish I was THERE now, doing just that!Style Week OC Runway: Nick Verreos hosting Style Week OC, September 2009

Words do not describe the immensity of this resort. The Pelican Hill is located in Newport Coast, not far from my Style Week OC Appearance, which was at the Irvine Spectrum Shopping Center. From the minute you drive up, it is FIVE STAR VIP treatment all the way. In fact, I asked the front desk staff (who were extremely accommodating) if the Pelican Hill was indeed a Five-Star Resort---and if it wasn't, well, then it is under the new "Nick Verreos Five Star Resort Resort Style Guide"! They told me that it wasn't even rated yet! (well those Zagat and Michelin people better get to it!) . The lobby even smells like a million bucks! (it is scented with its own unique Pelican Hill Resort scent, I kid you not!)Pelican Hill Resort Bungalow Living Room

We stayed at a sumptuous Bungalow Suite, about the size of my Downtown LA NIKOLAKI studio (about 2,000 square feet): There was an entry foyer room, full living room, dining area and mini bar area, sofas galore to relax in, two HUGE flat screen TVs, a full separate bedroom, large sunning balconies and closets that actually could fill up all my Gucci belts, YSL boots and Top Shop jackets! (did I just drop THREE labels?). I don't normally take photos at the hotels I stay during all my travels but I couldn't resist!Master Bedroom at a Pelican Hill Resort Bungalow

The piece de resistance of the Bungalow were the bathrooms: One smaller full one (for guests I assume) and a Master one with a huge sunken jacuzzi tub, full shower, double sinks...I could go on and on. It was simply the most gorgeous Resort Suite I had ever stayed at. In fact, upon entering, I quickly called EVERY close friend in Los Angeles and said "You better get your you-know-what down here and spend a night in the OC!" Alas, they didn't want to drive the (with traffic) hour+ drive. So, we had it all to ourselves. But it was such a tease: We only stayed for one night both times! Infinity Caesar: Nick Verreos enjoys the Pelican Hill Resort Coliseum Pool

We even dined at the lovely Pelican Grill and got to swim (OK, maybe just stand and relax) in the HUGE 136 foot Coliseum Pool which features ONE MILLION glass mosaic tiles that were laid by HAND! (I know, shut up!). We had an amazing stay and I was missing it the minute we drove away. Maybe some day in the future we can take some more R & R time from my crazy busy schedule and enjoy the Pelican Hill Resort once again. This time, I am NOT leaving that pool!Goodnight Mr. Verreos: This was waiting for me upon my return from my hosting and judging duties--Turndown Service a la Pelican Hill Resort
Happy Thanksgiving Weekend kiddies and take the time to relax...I'll try.

Nick Verreos and Andrae Gonzalo: Dishing on The Finale for MyLifetime.com

Coffee Klatching a la Nick and Andrae
Last week was the final episode of Season 6 Project Runway and for the last time (this season, at least), both Andrae and I drove to the fabulous Century City high rise offices of Lifetime Network's West Coast Digital Department. Nick Verreos, Mike (THE Lifetime cutie!) and Andrae Gonzalo, Lifetime Network offices

First, we actually viewed the super-guarded Final Episode and then we were whisked to their "digital studio" to shoot our final thoughts on the season and Miss Irina Shabayeva, the winner of Season 6 Project Runway. All Smiles: Andrae Gonzalo, Tamara (Lifetime Digital Diva) and Nick Verreos, Lifetime Network offices

I wore a very special bow tie (it's my dad's from the 1960's) for the occasion and I took a lot of notes (since I knew I would have to write my recap for MyLifetime.com without being able to continually pause the episode like I usually do! ). Andrae and I had a really fun time--as you will see from our video. We also really enjoyed hanging out with our Lifetime Digital "family", Tamara, Mike and Rachel. Auf Widersehen!

Nick Verreos Hosts the Pink Carpet at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show

Devil vs. Angel...PJ's or Lingerie...Cupcakes vs. Waffles
Supermodel Devil: Nick Verreos and Heidi Klum, 2009 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show pink carpet

Here's a fun video from my pink carpet reportage from last week's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in NYC that I did for Modelinia.com. Since it was sponsored by the hot new "deciding" search engine BING, I asked the pink carpet guests, what made them decide to wear what they wore. Sir Richard Branson wore a black bomber-style jacket (he told me it was his first time ever wearing a leather jacket!) and of course, all the supermodels wore teeny tiny sexy mini dresses. What made them decide to wear them? Because they CAN!!!!!

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector

I had seen this product loads of times in magazines over the last couple of years and I had always wondered if it would live up to the hype. Now you all know that I am a HUGE fan of highlighting products and especially ones that are multi-purpose. BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector (Gold) is a water based moisturiser with SPF 20, Vitamins A, B, C, D and E to help care for your skin as you wear the product. The website also states that it contains soothing, anti-flammatory and antiseptic ingredients so that's a huge plus in my book!

The product contains light diffusing particles that are designed to hide flaws and generally give your skin a radiant look. Now these kind of products, I've found in the past, tread a fine line between HIDING flaws and purely exaggerating them. In my experience, the finer the 'shimmer' particles in the product, the more likely it will have a flattering effect. I am pleased to report that this product has very fine particles and applied to the skin very smoothly. The Shimmering Skin Perfector is available in 6 shades and they can be viewed here http://www.beccacosmetics.com/COMPLEXION-Tinted-Moisturisers/c3_9/p23/Shimmering-Skin-Perfector/product_info.html. These are probably the most shades I have seen available purely for a highlighting liquid so I'm impressed that BECCA is making an effort as a brand to cater for different skin colours and types.
I don't know why but when I saw the product in magazines, I always thought it was a glass bottle, however, it's actually in a plastic container. I don't mean to sound shallow but I was a bit disappointed by the packaging and I kind of wished it felt more 'luxe'. When I pulled the rubber and metal lid off the product, I was met with a plastic pump applicator and lid and this almost cheapened the look of the product as a whole. Now that's not to say that it isn't practical, it's actually been thought through as the plastic lid covering the applicator is obviously to stop mess. HOWEVER, I don't like to get caught up on packaging too much as I like to concentrate more on the product within. After all, that's the most important thing!
This product really is a true gold with yellow undertones and the consistency is quite thick to what I'm used to. On the website they offer suggestions on how the product can be used which is always helpful as sometimes you spot things that you wouldn't have thought of yourself. The website advises that it can be applied all over the face as a base for foundation, which is what I will predominantly be using it for as the gold shade is alot easier to wear in winter than my usual bronze coloured highlighters.
You can also mix it with your foundation for a lighter, glowy complexion (I wouldn't tend to do this as I need a certain amount of coverage but I can see how this would work really well for some people). You can also dab the product on your cheekbones and browbones to highlight certain areas. You would have to be really light handed with this product as it has a thicker consistency and is very concentrated so you would only need a teeny tiny bit! You can also mix the product with a moisturiser and apply to your body for a gorgeous glow.

Here's a swatch of what the product looks like on the skin. As you can see, you really don't need alot...
This is what the product looks like once it has been blended into the skin...

This would create a really nice effect under foundation as it's intense enough to show through foundation, but not so heavy that it makes you look shiny or greasy. You basically just get a very healthy radiance. My preferred method of applying it to my face would be under my foundation rather than over it. I prefer to use the Rouge Bunny Rouge highlighting liquid on my cheekbones are the consistency is alot thinner. This BECCA product does have a place in my makeup routine though and it has a more noticeable effect than other highlighters when applied under makeup. I like the fact that the gold shade is so wearable, I thought it looked too yellow at first but once you have blended it in, it really suits pale to medium toned skins.
I have had alot of comments before that people find these kind of highlighters give them a 'greasy' look and my advice to them would be to either apply it under their foundation for a subtle effect (using something like MAC MSF Natural to set foundation) OR only apply it delicately on the outer corners of your cheekbones (think along the lines of a 'less is more' approach). This will ensure that you have a lovely glow without looking overly shiny.
