Always Classic - Black & White!!

Be a smart consumer is very important!!

Then, be a smart AND fabulous girl in this downtime economic is another important thing!!

Me?

I am up to a smart, fabulous and intuitive MOM to myself and to all my mommy friends around me!!!

Here is what I'd like to share w/ you.

I am so happy to hear my mommy friend, Pei, told me that she loses some weight over the past couple weeks. She said probably it is not that obvious for me to tell that she had lost weight. For me, how many pounds that she dropped is not that significant neither. Don't get me wrong, lose weight is not the point. What I want to praise here is her cheerful voice when she told me all about it. It happens when she browses through our old yet looking so young photos from at least 5 years ago the other day. Back then, she was way thin and I was pregnant w/ fuller and round face. lol She said that she didn't remember that I was ever that "round". haha.... And she loves how she looked before. Finally, she put the thoughts of having kids and still looking fabulous into action!!! :) I don't know exactly how she lost her weight but a turning point is def. a good start for her. :) I am happy for her as she feels great about herself and I am glad I had a good influence on her.

Everyone needs good friends and especially moms need supports after having a family and kids all that along the course!!!

So, what does it to do w/ smart consumer? Ah~~ Black and white!!

When I exhausted all my thoughts trying to put colored clothes together but still couldn't struck out a style to make a awe, I dug out my everything pure black and white and put them together. Then I realize they are indeed classic, gorgeous and effortlessly stylish!!!! :) That just remind myself, do invest clothes on black and white, whether it be a black sheath or just a simple white tank, they are supposed to be a wardrobe staple. *[*

Haul

My fiance is going away tomorrow for a week to go kayaking in the Outer Hebrides...rather him than me! Anyways, we were going to get some food shopping so I didn't starve while he was away (his words, not mine!). I told him I had to "pop into Boots on the way past to get something". Now in girl talk this should be translated to "I want to go and look at all the pretty makeup stuff for a while, tell myself I won't buy anything, then buy everything". After an unspecified amount of time, I emerged from Boots with a bag, to which my boyfriend announced "Finally!"...I, of course made up some excuse that there was a huge queue and the girl behind the till was really slow...which wasn't true (sorry Boots girl). What WAS true was that I got sidetracked buying lovely goodies and here is what I got:

I don't usually even look at the 17 counter in Boots coz I haven't used it since I was a teenager but after seeing Tali a.k.a. The Gloss Goss talking about how good the bronzing pearls were, I decided to take a look at what the brand had to offer. I saw quite a few lovely products. After swatching like a mad woman, I got the 17 Ligloss in Star Girl, Barry M Ligloss in no.4 and 17 Eye Pencil in Gold. I loved the lilacy shade of the 17 gloss and thought it was a flattering and easy-to-wear variation on the trend. I also LOVE the Barry M one, I have seen a few people posting on this product and I really like the milky opaque pinky/lilac effect it gives. It's quite full-on pastel for daytime so I will probably wait until I go out somewhere at night to try it out properly. At first, I thought the two lipglosses looked very similar, but on closer inspection and after swatching, you will see below that the 17 gloss is a sheerer, more shimmery peachy/lilac version of the Barry M gloss. So basically, I would wear the 17 one in the daytime for a more subtle look and the Barry M one for a more striking look at night.

The 17 Eye Pencil in Gold was an impulse buy but I'm SO glad I tried it coz it is SUPER pigmented and after swatching it, I washed my hand and it took a good three washes to get it off! This says to me that when I wear it, it's gonna be long lasting and won't budge. I will definitely go back and try out the other shades, from memory I think there was a silver one, purple, blue and black one. At just over £3.00, these are great value for money!

The product that made me check out the brand was the Instant Glow Bronzing Pearls in Medium. Tali had said that they give a gorgeous glow and I agree. When I swatched it, it looks like it would be a great product to add a glow to the hairline and cheekbones. I wouldn't say it's a product I would use as a bronzer for my whole face though as the colour isn't strong enough for that. The different coloured pearls just add that extra bit of sheeny glowiness and the swatch pic below certainly doesn't do it justice (you can thank my rubbish camera). I will have to use it in a FOTD to show you what I mean.

There was also a deal on that when you spent over £5 on 17 products, you get a free Bronzed & Gorgeous Summer Glow Kit as pictured below...

I wasn't expecting much from this palette as it didn't look that exciting at first...BUT...the eyeshadow called Statuesque (the taupey brown colour) is just gorgeous! I didn't expect it to be that pigmented and I would say that with a good base, this would be a stunning all over lid colour! The other eyeshadow in Ivory Coast didn't show up well in the pic but it's basically just a matte vanilla colour and you could use it as a highlight or to tone down the darker shade but it's a bit blah really. The bronzer in the palette is basically exactly like the bronzing pearls but in powder form. I hate the silly little cheap brushes they put in these kind of palettes...they're never any good. The disappointing part of the palette was the lipgloss, it's so rubbish, they didn't even give it a name. There's no pigment to it at all! I won't bother using it. I'm not that bothered about that though coz it was a freebie so anything good about it is a bonus.

The next section I skipped over to was Prestige. I have been desperate to try their other Skin Loving Mineral Powders ever since I got Pure Shimmer (one of my fave highlighters) and their bronzer in St Tropez. I got the most popular blogger choice, Glam Tan and the lesser blogged about, Rich Bronze. When I first swatched Glam Tan, I knew it was too dark for me to use as an all over bronzer, but it will be brilliant as a contour! I think Rich Bronze is alot more wearable, I am wearing it today and although I suspected it might be a bit shimmery to use all over the face as a bronzer, it looks really good. The shimmer isn't noticeable and it creates more of a glowy look to the skin. I love the quality of these mineral powders, they are great value for money and have the same concept as MAC MSF's. I really like the sturdy packaging too.

So after my very successful shopping trip to Boots, I came away a very happy bunny and with my arms and hands covered in different swatches of make-up...I felt VERY self conscious in the queue for the till...the guy next to me kept looking at my arms. I had a real urge to say to him "you're a guy...you don't understand these things! It's girl stuff!"

I've been tagged...

I was tagged by Redz2486 with this KreativBlogger tag. I like to think that I'm a little bit creative with my blog and I've tried to make the design of my blog a little unique. I will be working more on that next week when I have some software to play around with! The deal with this tag is that you have to give 7 random facts about yourself, I've done a similar tag before so I'll try and think of new things you don't already know, so here goes...

1) Despite being a beauty product junkie, I only have two blushes (I'm more of a highlighter kinda gal). I have naturally rosy cheeks so I don't feel the need to wear any. It can be both a blessing and a curse! (cue red faced Laura after a couple of glasses of wine!!!)

2) On a visit to a Dairy Farm in Primary 1 (I was 5 years old), we were walking through a field of dairy cows when the wind started to pick up and it started raining...only it wasn't rain...it was a cow peeing next to us. I still have nightmares...

3) My fiance's pet name for me is Piglet. It's not the most flattering of pet names and at first I hated it but it's become a running joke (what girl wants to be compared to a pig?!). It basically came about because we always make fun of eachother and when a picture of a cute little piglet came up on the tv, he said "awww, that's cute, it looks like you!" and it kinda stuck. He changed the screensaver on my laptop without my knowledge to a piglet picture, adapts pop songs to involve the word piglet and often refers to me as that in front of other people. Most girls say they would find it offensive but I find it funny, I know he says it as a joke and that's just our sense of humour. Everyone needs to be able to laugh at themselves.

4) When I was about 7, the day before a family photograph, I sat behind the livingroom couch and cut my fringe with blunt scissors because it was "getting in my eyes". You can imagine my mum's horror when she found me sitting there with my lovely long blonde hair, a stubby little fringe and a big smile on my face. The photo was still taken and it still haunts me to this day!

5) Ok, I'll put my hands up...I wear makeup to the gym. I know, I know, you shouldn't do it, but I always go to the gym after work and I can never be bothered washing all my makeup off before working out, so I just leave it on. There are alot of gym go-ers who cringe when they see a girl wearing makeup there, but in my case it's more laziness than vanity.

6) I went backpacking around Europe when I was 19 with two friends and it was amazing. Everyone thought it was hilarious that I was going to rough it and I did impractical stuff like pack full size Herbal Essences Shampoo and Conditioner and applied makeup everyday but hey, I got through it and I was proud of myself! We went to Paris,Barcelona, Venice, Florence, Sienna, Budapest, Prague, Krakow and Warsaw. It was great to see all those places and it gave me a good idea of where I wanted to go back to in the future (Barcelona was my fave!).

7) Which leads me onto the next fact about me...I am very determined. If someone tells me I can't do something or I'm not good enough, then I make it my mission to do it (like backpacking!). I can be very competitive and will try and prove people wrong. So if someone tells me I can't get a certain job, I will work harder and get it, if someone tells me I can't keep up with them at the gym, I will train until I can and if someone tells me I can't pass an exam, I will damn well do it! I'm never sure if this is determination or stubborness...either or, it has served me well.
