Busy Bumble Bee-- as always!!

I am preparing my son, Niel's, birthday party on Sat. We stopped by the lake where we held the party couple times, just to make sure we don't have to reserve it in advance, to know the detail of renting a kayak and how to drift on a inflatable boat........etc. Kids loves water, in fact, even adults too. I am so excited as I will be able to do kayaking and be close to the water w/o getting wet!!!

Kids ran for the freedom!!! :P

I have been hanging out w/ my high school pal, Judy, so often like 3 days in a week after she moved in the neighborhood. Then She becomes my "temporary" baby-sitter. I dropped off my 3 children to her so I can do chores quickly and efficiently.

Hosting a birthday party is a big thing especially when all of my guests have young children as well. The food, the cake, the place, the activities, even the favors become a headache when I want to do more personalized party favors!!! lol

I wore my Hale Bob silk/velvet top w/ IRO tappered pants, Chanel 2 tone pumps. I believe I carry Chloe sally w/ me.

Before Niel's birthday, it was Ilona's. She turned 2 last week and there was a mini birthday party for her. Well, she couldn't possibly remember anything about her 2-year-old birthday party. But I want her to know that no matter their birthday party is big or small, I cherish them equally.

Colors are the most efficient way to stimulate young brain other than music!

This toy is almost like Lego, except it is a roller coaster for marbles. Kids love anything ROUND!!!

Happy Birthday to Ilona!!

We went to Left Bank for lunch on Sat. This is the first time I tried les tartes flambees (Classic Alsacian thin crust savory tart). This is called BASQUE and the tomato sauce is so sweet that blends well w/ the slightly salty chorizo. Yum!!

I told my DH that I would just pay for the receipt of the crust!! So thin and so crispy!!

How amazing that my 2 years old Ilona knows how to pose everytime!

On Saturday: DKNY sleeveless top, Neil Barrett black sheer top, Gucci cropped pants, Sergio Rossi ankle heels, beads w/ floral embroidery necklace, Chanel 07 metallic silver reissue.

Finally today (Sun.)!! We had a lunch gathering w/ friends. kids enjoyed themselves very much as adults chat away the whole afternoon!! What a weekend for all of us!!

I can't start my Sun. skipping Power yoga!!

Ilona is more like a tomboy now!!
MY!! Where is my little princess!!!?

Nick Verreos Speaks to Miami University of Ohio Students in Florence Italy!!!

Ciao from Firenze!!!!Nick Verreos and the Miami University of Ohio Summer Program Students--flanked by Director, Dr. Mark Bernheim (in purple polo and ivory cargo pants)

I am finally getting my (blog) house in order and getting into the "swing" of things now that I am back from my travels. I will start with my extra special "Speaking Engagement" that I was invited to be a part of in the most culturally vibrant city of Florence Italy. I was invited to come and speak to a group of Journalism Students who were part of the Miami University of Ohio "Summer School in Italy Program".Il Porcellino and il Designer: Nick Verreos rubs "Il Porcellino's" snout (it is said that if you do, you are sure to return to Florence)

After a scenically beautiful train ride on the TGV from Paris to Florence (more on that in another post), David (of course, he came with me) and I arrived in this city of Renaissance treasures ready for my engagement. Of course, we immediately began walking through the streets of Florence and headed directly to the iconic Duomo. The Duomo by Night, Florence Italy

The city was steaming with people. It was a hot summer weekday and it seemed just about every tourist in Europe was in Florence! Especially Americans; that's all we could hear. Even though I was there as part of a College "Europe Summer Program", I forget that Florence is such a yearly destination for American students--as well as their families. It was Cancun--in the middle of Italy--and with a heck of a lot more culture (and fabulous leather bags!).I've Arrived! Nick Verreos arrives at the Polimoda Institute

I was excited to meet my hosts, the affable (and rather stylish) Dr. Mark Bernheim, the enchanting Journalism Professor, Annie Blair and their Miami University of Ohio students. They were nothing but gracious, excited and effusive in their immediate welcome to David and I. The following day, after settling into my Florence hotel, and a few Caprese salads later, we got right down to "business". Our first stop was a very special invitation to the Polimoda International Institute of Fashion Design and Marketing, one of Europe's top fashion institutions of higher learning.Ciao Bello: Nick Verreos with trusty guide--and Miami University Florence Summer Program local man-about-town, Alessandro

Along with our trusty guide, the very charming Alessandro ( in "man-pris" and Puma sneakers of course!), we headed to the former Villa belonging to the Strozzi family, which now houses the Polimoda headquarters. Is It a Museum? A View from Polimoda's gorgeous Library

We were treated to a wonderful lecture on fashion branding and marketing plus an introduction to the school and its programs. We even got to visit its fabulous library, with frescoes on the ceiling that rivaled a Medici Palace. I even met several Polimoda students who, by chance recognized me and were fans of me and Project Runway (I know, even in Florence Italy!).Polimoda Alta Moda: Nick Verreos poses with Polimoda student creations (all in denim) flanking the lobby/entrance of Polimoda Institute, Florence Italy

Afterwards, we headed back to the home of the Miami University of Ohio Florence Campus, where I was to give my lecture. I spoke to the students about my foray into fashion and how it became my life and my love. We also covered topics including marketing, "new journalism" (blogging) and of course some Project Runway dish (which of course they loved--"How was Heidi?" they kept asking). A View of the Ponte Vecchio, Florence Italy

After the requisite Italian "siesta", we all then met up for a sumptuous Florentine dinner at the elegantly appointed Golden View Open Bar Restaurant by the Arno River and the Ponte Vecchio, where I devoured what was simply the most delicious truffle oil ravioli I have ever had. View From the Uffizi Gallery Cafe: The Ponte Vecchio Tower

Besides the lectures, the Polimoda "tour" and my speaking engagement, David and I got to do the requisite museum visits and sightseeing, including the famed Uffizi (make your reservations online prior to going!) and the expansive Palazzo Pitti. The Pitti Palace was of course, the residence of the Medici's, but one thing I didn't know was that it was also the location of Italian Couturier Valentino's first ever runway show! Oh, and I also even bought a bag! When in Florence....you got to do some shopping.Valentino's First Runway Show: Was here, at the Pitti Palace

The Miami University students were some of the nicest group of students I have ever met--Along with Dr. Bernheim, all of them, made me feel right at home and as if I was a long-time friend visiting for the Summer. All of them genuinely approached me at the end and thanked me for coming and for giving them a little bit of "home" and of course, bringing a little bit of Project Runway and US pop culture to their lives.

As part of their Journalism curriculum, each student was required to start a blog while they are in Florence (I know--How great is that?) Click HERE and HERE for a few of the students blog entries on the day we spent together. They are so sweet to say such nice things....I was clutching my pearls!!!!!

FOTD (well, face of last night actually...)

As you can see, I'm quickly becoming addicted to using the Babylis Conical Wand...it truly is the best heated appliance I own (even more than my GHD's!). I love the fact that you can create volume with it at the roots as well as creating gorgeous waves. It makes my hair look twice as thick and I am running around recommending it to everyone I know!
The gloves that come with it did start to annoy me slightly so I tried doing it without them last night...it was alot easier but you have to be SO careful not to burn your fingers!

This was the look I went for last night, it's pretty neutral/natural but I'm sure you've come to expect this from me by now!ha ha...I used the following products:

Face: The Body Shop Tinted Illuminator in no.2, Revlon Colourstay Foundation in True Beige, Estee Lauder Uncircle Concealer in Light, Mac MSF Natural in Medium, Lancome Tropiques Mineral Bronzer for an all over glow, then Barry M Natural Dazzle to create a contour (which is better demonstrated in the pic below), the lightest shade in my new Elf Studio Golden Bronzer as a higlight on the cheekbones and browbone.

Eyes: Lancome Colour Dose in Montego Beige all over lid as a base, Mac Solar Bits in Impassioned all over lid, the palest gold eyeshadow in the Sleek Safari palette in the tearduct and slightly onto the lid, Sue Moxley Eyeliner in Citrine ony along top lashline, a super fine line of Mac Penultimate Liquid Liner in Black right in along the lashes and then YSL Faux Cils Mascara in Black.

Lips: GOSH Darling then Bonne Belle lipgloss in Cappuccino.

I really like the Elf Studio Golden Bronzer however I think I will be getting the darker shades as this one doesn't add much colour, it's more of a highlighter really, but lovely all the same. It gives a nice glow to the cheeks and is finely milled, so I would recommend this to people who are either very pale or someone who just wants to add a subtle glow/sheen to their cheeks.
I must admit with shame that was the first time I had used my Mac Solar Bits since I got them (I must have too many eyeshadows!) and I gotta say that I love Impassioned, it's a gorgeous taupe colour and it quickly become a favourite...I can't wait to try Scatterays!
