FOTD:...Battered and Wounded!

Ouuuuchhh! My face hurts so much!

Here I am getting into trouble again! lol

If you didn't realize, this is makeup! Special effects makeup is so cool and it's a field that I would love to learn more about. I don't really like scary horror movies but the special effects artist in those movies are incredibly talented.

Items Used:

Duo Clear Lash Glue
MUFE #92 Eyeshadow
MAC Carbon Eyeshadow
MAC Sushi Flower, Passionate, Amber Lights and Handwritten Eyeshadow

MAC Myth lipstick

I hope you like!

Awilda

Nick Verreos attends Skingraft Fashion Show at DLAFW Spring Collections!

Downtown Los Angeles Fashion Week Continues: Skingraft
Amelia Earhart Goes to a Cocktail Party: Skingraft Spring 2010

On Tuesday evening, after the first ever Fashion Angel Awards, I was invited to another great show, Skingraft Spring 2010. I attended their last runway show (at the historic and very grand Los Angeles Theater in Downtown LA) and it was great so I was very much looking forward to what they were offering for Spring.
Pre-Show: Holster Mania: The Skingraft Holster

The crowd:
Post-apocalyptic warrior princes and princesses--mostly in black and in leather. Outlandish Chapeaus and very Steven Meisel Editorial hair and make up. It was a scene; a "people-watcher's" paradise!
Hot Accessory: The Skingraft Holster on men. I spotted several well-dressed men wearing a HOT leather holster across their back and onto their chests. I guess this is the Skingraft version of the Hermes Kelly Bag. Mental Note: I MUST go to the Skingraft boutique and buy one! (I know, I am LATE!!!)
The Show:Laura Croft 2010: Skingraft Spring 2010

For Spring, Skingraft found inspiration in "post-mortem Amelia Earhart and birds in flight." Modern-day Amelia's (and Amelio's) stomped onto the runway in their leather aviator caps, fitted warrior-like jackets, shearlings, and jodhpur pants. They also offered lighter fabrications such as feathered silk blouses and soft-as-butter leather jackets (that's how Skingraft does Spring!) Cropped Warrior: Skingraft Spring 2010

One of my favorite women's looks was an all-white capped sleeved jacket and skinny pant ensemble that had Laura Croft Tomb Raider written all over it. I also loved the cropped pants and shoulder pleated leather jackets they showed for their men. Here Comes the Bride: Skingraft Spring 2010

The stars of the show, however, were the final multi-ruffled dresses with metallic and leather bustiers. One model had a bird (faux I presume) precariously perched atop her shoulder. The show ended with a black ruched-and-crinoline gown with leather-and-grommet side panels and vest. I assume this was the Skingraft Bride. Her veil: Black feathered wings: Naturally!

Knee-high Boots?!! Nay, just Look Alike!!

After yesterday's staying low for not taking so many pic. of myself, I decided to take it to DH and have him do the dirty work for me. lol

Oh,...no, not dirt work!!

I must say if my in-laws saw DH taking pic. of me, they wouldn't say anything anymore. DH loves me very much and I am glad that he knows being supportive of this thing is so important to me too. :)

I am stilling feeling my hair. I felt that I look much younger w/ this simple hair do. There is a slightly bias cut from back to the front, maybe a long bob I could say.

I've never done this before!! I mean when I am furious, I never go have a hair cut since it would be like killing me twice! :P However, I do realize it is so helpful to clam my rage by simply transforming to a different look this time!!

I am still in search for a knee-high boots randomly. Nothing caught my eyes though!!

Now since I am very pleased by the almost like thigh-high boots look of Aqua leather leggings + Givenchy chain wedge booties, the knee-high boots can wait. :)

My ODJ

1. Top:

  • blue cotton vest
  • C&C California super long cotton vest
  • taupe wool blend vest
2. Bottom: Aqua leather leggings
3. Shoes: Givenchy chain wedge boots
4. Accessory:
Anthropologie beaded necklace w/ floral peg

Estee Lauder Pure Colour Crystal Lipstick

I used to think of Estee Lauder as an older woman's brand, I guess just because of the way it's marketed and packaged etc. Their packaging is generally never edgy or cool, I just normally gave it a miss. I have used quite a few of their products in the past like Double Wear foundation, Disappear concealer etc and I have always been impressed by the quality.

Recently I was watching a vid on YouTube by Sam from Pixiwoo about the new Estee Lauder Sumptuous Colour Mascaras and something Sam said about the brand made me think...she had said that the reason you can rely on the quality of Estee Lauder is BECAUSE it's main target market is older women and studies show they are more likely to complain if they think the product isn't up to scratch. They also generally have more money to spend so they expect more from cosmetics. This spurred me on to go and have a look at the Estee Lauder website and see what they had to offer at the moment. I've heard alot of good things about their Double Wear Cream Eyeshadows and their lipsticks. On this occasion, after splurging on other stuff, I decided to just get a lipstick - Pure Colour Crystal Lipstick in Tiramisu.
As you can see from the swatch, it's a gorgeous slightly sheer peachy/pinky gold nude colour and as you would expect the quality is brilliant. It's super smooth to apply, feels very moisturising, stays on for a reasonable amount of time and it has a lovely sheen/gloss to it too. This shade is so wearable and I think it would suit a wide variety of skintones. This makes it ideal as a daytime lipstick, which in my mind is always something that isn't too 'in your face'. This lipstick is fruit scented (fig, apparently) so if you don't like scented lipsticks, that may annoy you, but it really doesn't bother me at all. I love this lipstick!
So I guess what I'm trying to say is that although Estee Lauder isn't a cutting edge brand in the way of package design and advertising, their products are very high quality. Although their products are aimed at a different market from the likes of MAC, it doesn't mean that you should dismiss what they have to offer. You can see from the website that they do use alot of cutting edge technology in some of their products such as their mascaras and their Sumptuous mascara is supposed to be fantastic. I have added the Pure Colour Lipstick in Vanilla Truffle to my lust list after reading Hele's post on it ages ago. I have also added the Sumptuous mascara to my list.
So, do you own any fantastic Estee Lauder products and if not, have you got any on your list list?

Nick Verreos Attends Downtown LA Fashion Week: Emerging Designers Runway Show!

Nick KnockerWhere's Logan: Model Kojii Helnwein of Lifetime Network's Models of The Runway and Nick Verreos

Tuesday night I was invited to attend the Fashion Angel Awards Fashion Show as part of Downtown Los Angeles Fashion Week. There was excitement in the air at the DLAFW venue of Geffen Contenporaray/MOCA as guests gathered to see the winners of this first-ever contest, sponsored generously by the City of Los Angeles and the Department of Cultural Affairs. Downtown Red Carpet: Nick Verreos, Downtown Los Angeles Fashion Week

I was one of the "esteemed" judges of this contest and therefore I wanted to show up to extend my support--and to see the fabulous fashion!Once I arrived, I spotted the gorgeous Kojii Helnwein, model from Lifetime Network's Season 6 Project Runway, and Models of the Runway as well as one of my fellow judges, party planner Vanessa Gonzalez. Studio 54 2009: Nick Verreos and Vanessa Gonzalez

Vanessa is a GAY MAN!!! Loving her and her look. Feathered platinum hair, white fur (faux?) coat and white very skinny pants. The bubblegum pink lipstick was my favorite accent to her Michelle Pfeiffer-does-Scarface look!
LA Fashionistas: Nick Verreos and friends at Downtown Los Angeles Fashion Week

The three winners were Phong Hong, Fernanda Carneiro and Krys-n-Jack designers Jacquetta O'Dell and Leslie Henry. Their three collections couldn't have been more different. And I think that was our point--in terms of how we judged. Each designer showed ten looks in their mini-collections.
Phong Hong began his "Femme Noir" collection with pretty (very) mini dresses with rosette details. They were prom dresses for the young Hollywood set (trust me, it's a compliment!). Then Brazilian-born Fernanada Careniro's (a FIDM graduate) designs followed. Her sensible day dresses featured ruffle detail, great fit and wearable colors. She used silk-linen, silk crepe de chine as well as silk charmeuse as her main fabrications--and they all worked well. The ladies of Krys-N-Jack finished off this first ever Fashion Angel Awards Runway Show with their conceptual looks, entitled "The Knockers" featuring wood, leather belts, metals, including actual keys! It was Medieval-meets-Renaissance-meets-Hussein Chalayan--and that's just one outfit! I absolutely loved the titles of each ensemble: "Door Knocker", "Squire Knocker" and my favorite "Daddy Knocker". Imagine your date asking you "what are you wearing?", "Oh , it's my 'Daddy Knocker' !" Hot. Congratulations to all three winners of the first ever Fashion Angel Awards.

Jemma Kidd Creme Cheek Colour

After seeing the ever beautiful Tali (The Gloss Goss) raving over this product, I ended up gettin it from Lookfantastic.com. I'm such a sucker for the products she has on her blog coz our tastes are so simliar, despite the fact that we have different colouring.

This product is described as a "unique and lightweight creme to powder texture, long-wear with added vitamin A, C and E". Now as you know, I'm not the biggest blush wearer as I have naturally rosy cheeks. I spent my teenage years covering it up with heavy foundations but now I don't mind it so much. Also, as I use gradual tanners regularly, it tends to cancel out the redness anyway. I have however started applying pale pink or pale peach blushes to ensure my face doesn't end up looking too 'flat' after applying foundation. I think you should always try and add dimension to your face by contouring and using products like blush to add a bit of interest and colour. It also makes you look healthier.
As you can see, this shade which is called Paw Paw (how cute!) is the perfect peach colour to give you a healthy glow. As Tali had said, it photographs slightly differently but basically it's not too pink or orange (believ me, I'm fussy about peach colours!). The texture of it is just dreamy, it's silky smooth, velvety and SO light. On first touch it's like a soft cream then when applied it melts onto the skin to form a super fine powder (but it never ever looks powdery). I am not a fan of creame blushes in general as they tend to create too much shine, or they end up rubbing off your foundation/powder.
However, this creme blush is so easy to use and apply, I loved it as soon as I touched it. You can either apply it with your fingers or a sponge. It can be used alone or under a powder blush as a base to make sure the colour lasts all day. You get a great little guide with this product explaining how you can use it, for anyone who is just starting out with makeup and needs a bit of advice. I think that's great as not everyone has experience with makeup application and for those of you who are new to blush, it's a nice touch.
I absolutely love this product and would recommend it to anyone who wants a subtle natural glow to the cheeks. The packaging is compact and practical. I will definitely be checking out the rest of the Jemma Kidd Makeup School range - after reading Holly's (The Yummy Mummy's Beauty Blog) post on the double-ended lipstick/primer in the shade called Wendy, I really want to give that a go!
