Fur, more Fur, and then Fur fun!!

When we are in London and Milan, it is the chillest day in our trip.... it is about 46 degree F.  When we were back in SF yesterday evening, we certainly feel much warmer. ^^

It is great to be HOME!! My friend said that the "home-sick" feeling would last us about 4 to 5 months until we want another VACATION to be away from home. lol. That's so true!!

Nick Verreos Figure Skating Fashion Blog UniversalSports.com: Grand Prix of France/Trophee Eric Bompard!

Bonjour France!

French Figure Skater Brian Joubert skating his Short program at Trophee Eric Bompard before pulling out of the Free Program as a result of gastroenteritis

I can't believe it's almost over! Well, the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals, that is. We've "traveled" the entire Globe--Japan, China, Russia, Canada and the United States--in search of the top figure skaters in the world. As well as in search of the best and not-so-best Figure Skating Costumes.

This last weekend was the Trophee Eric Bompard in France, the last stop before the Final Grand Prix in Beijing China (it's in two weeks!). Of course, I was watching to see who would make the final cut and eventually go to Beijing, but naturally, I was also watching for the costumes and for my UniversalSports.com Figure Skating Blog.

I also especially LOVE the Grand Prix of France because they always have the MOST FABULOUS "Kiss-and-Cry" section! They make Russia's--and every other Grand Prix for that matter--look as if they're in someone's Trailer Park! Leave it to the French: Always Chic. Here are some (Costume) highlights from this past weekend: Once again, there were a few Costume Changes. Check it all out below:

US Figure Skater Mirai Nagasu's Costume Changes

Memoirs of a Pretty Skate:
Another Change in Costume! What is happening? Are these ladies actually reading my comments here on UniversalSports.com? (I privately hope so!). I like this new costume: It’s young, fresh; love the bright white color and the delicate youthful flower detail. However (you know that was coming), I wished that the skirt would have been a lighter more flowy chiffon or georgette fabric.

US Figure Skater Alyssa Czisny's Costume Changes

Color Genius:
At first glance, I actually thought Alyssa Czisny’s costume was a brand-new costume. But soon enough I realized “Oh wait, it’s the SAME costume!” but she did something really unique. She added a splash of hand-painted color and Voila: New costume! I think it’s actually quite genius of her (or her people) to have done that. I call this “New Costume for the Economic Recession!” I liked the costume before but now, I LOVE it!

Japan's Haruka Imai at Grand Prix of France/Trophee Eric Bompard

Kismet On Ice:
Haruka Imai’s colorful costume, in which she skated to the Polovetsian Dances, or better known for its “Stranger In Paradise” melody, was a little over the top I thought. It may have been a bit too literal for me. I liked the intricate top but lose the “car wash” fringed skirt and tacky arm bands. Along with her flailing arm movements, those two things didn’t help.

Fumie Suguri's Costume: From Bad to Good...or Bad to Worse???

See what I thought about Japan's Fumie Suguri Costume Re-do--plus all the other costumes from Grand Prix of France

Winter Skin Woes and Miracles

Having spent the majority of the weekend flopped under a blanket cuddling a big box of Kleenex, and the entirety of Monday at work dreaming about hiding under said blanket I think it is fair to say that I am miserably ill. As everyone relishes telling me, whether to prove themselves very observant, or simply point out that I'm a bit pathetic, I get ill a lot! If someone even thinks about sneezing on me on the tube I can pretty much tell that.. yup there you have it...
No surprises really as I was always a sickly kid, nothing debilitating, so I shouldn't really complain, but it is nevertheless annoying. Especially as I seem to be the only person (well, the only person I have ever met) who is allergic to paracetamol, which is conveniently found in every single cold/ flu medicine, so I have to go it 'cold' turkey. I won't even begin to tell you what happened the last time I sneaked a lemsip past the bf in desperation...

I will now stop feeling sorry for myself and get to the point of this post. As I am currently burning at approximately 15 million degrees Celsius (same as the Sun's core) my skin is getting horribly dry, flakey and chapped. So I thought this would be an appropriate time to tell you about my winter/ lurgy skin saviour.

Meet Embryolisse 24 hour miracle cream. I was curious about Embryolisse and the hype surrounding it, as it is always being praised by MUAs, but I never thought it would work so well for me.

This deeply hydrating, yet gentle cream has soothed my skin and really helped reduce inflamation. What I love about it is that it really moisturises, without feeling greasy and immediately softens tight skin leaving it feeling comfortable. Packed full of effective ingredients such as shea butter, beeswax and aloe vera while being paraben free it does exactly what it sets out to do. When your skin is extremely sensitive you want something simple and effective and as this has no scent it really calms irritation at a time when I find my regular creams (Liz Earle, Origins, even Nivea) actually sting. This is especially true around the nose, where the skin can be particularly raw - this is the only cream (apart from EA 8 hour) that I can apply to this area without feeling the burn and it has really helped as an overnight treatment.

If you have sensitive skin prone to dryness I highly recommend this cream. I was sent a sample of it to try, but I will definitely be purchasing a tube as it has worked absolute wonders at my time of need. Plus let's face it, in a few weeks time I will be back in bed cursing my flakey nose lol.

Although Embryolisse is widely available in Europe it is a notorious pain to find in the UK. Luckily Cocobeau now stock a range of Embryolisse products and the 24 Hour Miracle Cream is available  here priced at £10 for 30ml and £16 for 75ml.

Let me know if you have tried this miracle cream and if you recommend any other Embryolisse products. I am impressed so far and am keen to try more of the range :). xxx

Paul & Joe Face Colour

I always get drawn in by the Paul & Joe packaging, it's always so intricate and girly! I adore the floral design on the box for this product and I like the pearlised, embossed compact even more.  The product itself (003 Pagan) is a dark pink, almost rose coloured blush which sits beside a warmly toned gold highlighter.  Normally I wouldn't wear a blush as dark as this but when you mix it with the gold shade, it creates a really nice luminising colour for the cheeks.  It has the same effect as blushers like Benefit Coralista where you get a glowy effect which I personally prefer to matte blushers.  You could always use them separately but for me they work better together.  The powders themselves are smooth to apply and have good pigmentation.  I would say this is a good winter alternative to Benefit Coralista because it's pinker in tone and slightly cooler.  It's priced at £15 so if you prefer not to spend so much on a blush then Sleek have a good range of colours to choose from and they are fantastic quality for only £3.99...

I was up quite late last night and stumbled across the film 'The Last King Of Scotland' starring James McAvoy (always had a thing for him!), Forrest Whitaker and Kerry Washington which I've seen a couple of times before.  It reminded just how beautiful Kerry is! I love her hair, clothes and makeup in these shots...

I remember the first film I ever saw her in was 'Save The Last Dance' starring Julia Stiles back in 2001, when I was still at university.  I think she is a brilliant actress and especially so in 'The Last King Of Scotland' and 'Ray'.  Her face has a real softness to it and she has those big brown doe eyes...gorgeous!  She always looks very sophisticated when I see pics of her in magazines and online.
