Red Carpet Report: 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards...The Oh Dear! Top Ten!

Daytime Emmy Awards Red Carpet OH DEAR! Top Ten!!!

I'm just going to make this Short and Not-so-Sweet--in terms of my Daytime Emmys Red Carpet Fashion Two Cents. I present to you my "Oh Dear! Daytime Emmy Awards Ladies"...

The Finalists:

Petal Pusher: Pink Petal Prom Disaster--It's like someone tried to Knock Off something from Project Runway Season 5 Winner Leanne Marshall...but didn't succeed. I loved the hair though (insert Happy Face).

Where's The Rest of My Dress: Oh huney! Did you forget the rest of your dress? This is unacceptable. Maybe on the runway, it looked H.O.T. Hot on a 6 foot tall model from Brazil but here, in real life, on the red carpet, it looks as if you ran out of your secret lover's hotel room right before his wife showed up!

Scuba No: Now, I realize the whole "Scuba" Theme is big for Resort 2012, but...What in the name of Color-Blocking Fashion is this above? And those necklaces? Were they really necessary? On stage, that neckline looked a teeny weeny bit TOO PLUNGING as well. The "sistahs" didn't look so nice. Her hair and make-up look were very good though (see, I try to include some positives).

Tonya Harding Meets Daytime Drama: Bless Her Swarovski Crystal Studded Purse Heart. Let me guess: Judith Lieber? (the purse, that is) The dress is A LOT of Bubblegum Pink--and I'm a fan of Barbie Bubblegum Pink but maybe not so much of it. And why is the top section inspired by a Figure Skating Costume? Tonya Harding We've Got A (Fashion) Problem!

Real Housewives of Orange County Garage Sale: Two Word: Oh No! It's a Handkerchief-y Hem...it's Caftan-y...it's Wrong. Someone made a mistake and told her she was going to a 20th High School Reunion for one of the "Real Housewives of Orange County" as opposed to "Hello, it's the Daytime Emmy Awards"! Maybe at a resort in Marrakesh but not on the Red Carpet.

Pageant Betty: Well well well, it looks like one of Miss USA 2011 Contestants decided to "jump ship", leave the Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Telecast and went straight to the Las Vegas Hilton instead! I wonder if her "handler" even knew she was missing? What is with this gown: The garish colors and the feathers on the boobie (sorry for the Kindergarten-speak), the mesh/nude-and-diamante inset...

Athens On a Budget: I get that the Grecian Goddess Look is still very in--I am a big Fan of this, but the dress is a bit of a misstep here. I think it's the "striped" fabrication--why isn't it just gathered and draped like all the other Grecian Goddess dresses? And then the addition of the necklaces, earrings and...is that a "crown"/headband? Oh those Daytime Drama girls love their accessories huney.

Quick, A Steamer: Looks like someone tried to "recreate" that Gucci Spring 2011 "Look of the Season"...and it did not work. This is like "Wet Seal/Contempo Casuals" Does Gucci. And the wrinkling didn't help. Hand-held Steamer anyone?

Runner Up:

Toddlers & Tiaras Red Carpet: Please tell me she is on some SERIOUS medication. Please. Why is she smiling? I guess I give her points for even walking out of the house, getting in a car and doing the Red Carpet. Who thinks of these two VERY different prints and then decides to combine them? Who? My favorite part, though, is THAT "TLC Toddlers & Tiaras" hair-DON'T. Will someone PLEASE stop hairstylists from doing side ringlets?? PLEASE!!!

But The Award Goes To:

My Window Curtains Are Gone: I ABSOLUTELY love this woman. Any person who would have the chutzpah to just go out, in public, to a BIG Red Carpet Event--in THIS Dress--must be a HOOT to be with! This dress is now on my official "Worst Dresses of 2011" List (I just created the list!). It's like she went to Western Costumes and got an old Marie Antoinette costume (or some curtains from a "Period Film") and decided to pair it with an unrelated black dress she had in her closet from 1987. It's either that or there's a new Project Runway copy-cat show filming in LA as we speak and this was the result of one of the unfortunate Challenges.

Red Carpet Report: 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards Best Dressed!

Ahhh...the Daytime Emmys.
You have to give this Awards Show a bit of a Southern "Bless their hearts" when speaking of them. It is truly the "bastard child" of the Awards Season. Most of these poor ladies don't get the benefit of loaned dresses or high-paying stylists to give them the assistance they so desperately need. So with that disclaimer out of the way...

I present my "Nick Verreos Best Dressed" (maybe it should be Better Dressed!) for the 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards:

Camila Banus of Days Of Our Lives clearly won the night for best dressed. This beautiful aubergine Silk Chiffon Grecian Draped Gown by Jovani looked stunning on her and the simple soft curled hairstyle was perfect. My only critique would be the shoes. She got it right with the nude color, she just didn't need the "Pageant Stacked" Platforms.

Christel Khalil of The Young and The Restless looked fresh and young in this forest green Mini Dress with beaded cut-outs. Why look 43 when you are 23?!!

Academy Award Winner and Celebrity Apprentice star Marlee Matlin: Miss Marlee is giving you DRAMA! I think she looks spectacular in this Fuchsia Jersey Draped Gown. PERFECTION, from head to toe!!!!

The Bold and the Beautiful actress Kimberly Matula: On any other Red Carpet this probably would not have made it on my Best Dressed List, but she gets points for keeping the silhouette simple and letting the beautifully beading give you all the drama. Her major misstep was adding the Necklace. Stacked bracelets would have been much better. She's two minutes away from looking like a contestant in the Miss USA pageant!

Meredith Vieira: Now I know this will be a controversial one for most people, but I think Meredith looks great in this dress. It looks chic and sophisticated and very "New York". Love the comfortable draping and the asymmetrical back. She also styled it to perfection with some amazing earrings, great bracelets and some killer shoes! And PS: What a SMOKIN' Body on Meredith! (Did I just say that?)

Isklar with Jessica Lowndes aka Adrianna 90210

When an invite for an Isklar (Norwegian mineral water) event dropped into my inbox, I was more than a little surprised. Normally I would send anything unrelated to the subject of this blog into the junk folder, but something prompted me to keep reading and I'm very glad that I did! Isklar were holding a beauty event featuring three different glacial looks taken from the catwalk and made wearable. As the ambassador of the brand the beautiful Jessica Lowndes aka Adrianna from 90210 was in attendance and even created her own looks on three girls!

Being a bit of a closet 90210 fan (along with every other girl in my office) I was very much excited to meet her! I can wholeheartedly testify that she is indeed breathtakingly stunning in person - petite, curvy and radiant. It was especially lovely to see her being friendly with everyone. She was all smiles when doing the makeovers and patiently agreed to lots of photos being taken.
Isn't she beautiful! Shame I look like such a muppet trying to crouch down next to her so I don't look like a giant...

I managed to get a little action shot of Jessica's work during the makeovers and was impressed by her makeup skills as the end look was really pretty!
If you are interested the gorgeous blush Jessica is wearing is Bare Minerals vintage peach, which I am also wearing in our photo together ;).

Are you a fan of 90210 and Jessica Lowndes? xxx

My Nail Care Tips & A Small Giveaway

We use our hands every day of our lives so I feel like it’s important to keep them looking manicured and presentable. I always feel really self conscious if I have chipped nail polish or dry hands so I always stick to these following guidelines to make sure they always look good.  I am a bit funny about my nails because if they even get the tiniest bit smudged or chipped then I have to remove all my nail polish and do it again.  I know...I'm a freak.  BUT they do say you can guess the age of a woman by her hands so I intend to keep mine in tip top condition!

Everyone has completely different ideas on what is the perfect nail length and it can depend on the shape of your fingers and nails.  I always find the perfect nail length for me personally is when the white part of the nail tip has grown a couple of centimetres from the pink part of the nail (as shown in the pic above). This gives a nice length but also a manageable one that is less likely to become weak and split or break. I always file them straight across and then curve the edges.

I file my nails around twice a week to maintain their shape and keep them strong. As soon a split appears file the nail to seal the layers and prevent further damage.  I ONLY use crystal nail files because they have a much finer grain to them which means they are a lot less likely to damage your nails.  My favourite is the OPI Crystal Nail File...

I also buff my nails once a week to smooth any ridges and create the best possible base for my nail polish. It also gives them a nice smooth appearance if you want to go without nail polish.  My favourite is the Leighton Denny Quatro Buffer...

You don't have to buy expensive hand exfoliators.  I just use a normal body scrub (preferably containing nourishing oils) on my hands two or three times a week to keep them smooth and moisturised and also to hydrate my nails and cuticles.

This will sound weird but the best hand cream I have used is actually a product that was designed for feet! I find i's the most effective hand lotion I have used because it totally eradicates any dryness in a very short space of time.  It's Soap & Glory Heel Genius....

I always use a Base Coat and let it dry for at least 1 minute. The Base Coat helps to keep your nail polish from chipping, makes polish last longer and stops discolouration of your nails.  My favourite is OPI Natural Nail Base Coat...

I never rush when I'm applying polish because that always leads to annoying smudges and chips.  Always allow your polish to dry thoroughly for several minutes before you apply the next coat. This will avoid the new coat from dragging on the surface of the previous coat and allow the next layer adhere better. Also, remember that darker shades take longer to dry.

Once my nail polish has dried, I always apply a clear top coat to seal it and make it less likely to chip in the days to come. My favourite product to use for this is Mavala Colorfix...

Try to use a nail polish remover that contains hydrating oils and only use the product once or twice a week if it contains acetone as constant use can weaken your nails.

I always wear rubber gloves when doing housework or washing the dishes as subjecting your hands to long periods of being damp or wet will weaken your nails. Cleaning product also contain drying ingredients that will strip your nails and dry our your hands.

You can remove dead skin cells from your hands using a sea salt-lemon solution. Use an old toothbrush to brush it in your hands twice a week. This will help soften your hands and get rid of any discoloration on your nails.

It is not a good idea to remove the cuticles from your nails, as it will make the nail susceptible to infection. I prefer to use a good quality cuticle oil and gently push back the cuticles, with the help of an orangewood stick. My all time favourite fail safe cuticle oil that i apply every day is OPI Avoplex Cutcile Oil To Go...

If your cuticles really need a revamp, then you can always use a cuticle remover.  This stuff is amazing at transforming your cuticles and it's so easy to use; Dr G's Cuticle Healer...

I try to give my nails a break from time to time and go without nail polish for a couple of days. Otherwise, your nails can develop an ugly, yellow tint. If you file and buff your nails then apply a cuticle oil then they can actually look really natural and healthy. If you have brittle nails, it's probably best to wear a strengthening nail treatment, or at least the colorless base coat, as much as you can.

I also wanted to let you know about a Nails Inc giveaway courtesy of the News of the World free beauty magazine, Fabulous, which comes with the newspaper every Sunday.  They will be giving away two free Nails Inc. polishes worth a total of £22.  The two shades, Atomic (orange) and OMP! (pink) were created especially for Fabulous and are great summer colours.  In order to get your hands on these two free nail varnishes, all you need to do is cut out and collect three of the tokens printed over the next four weeks in Fabulous, starting this Sunday (19th June).  I'm sorry, I know that was yesterday but you can maybe find someone who has the paper from then and snab the token that way! You then have to take these tokens to participating Tesco stores from 3rd July to redeem.  Plus, you can also get a half-price manicure for £14 (usually £28) at any participating Nails Inc salon.

I actually have one set of these summer polishes to give away to one of you guys.  You can enter by just posting a comment under here (saying anything you like!) with your email address.  I will pick the winner at random and let them know via email.  Sorry but the giveaway is only open to UK subscribers.  Good luck!
