Nick Verreos Hosts Simon Fashion Now's STYLE WARS!

Nick LOVES San Diego!Stomp that Runway: Nick Verreos hosts Style Wars at San Diego Fashion Valley

This last weekend, I was invited to host the first ever draping competition, Style Wars, at San Diego's upscale Fashion Valley Fashion Center, as part of Simon Fashion Now. Both Tim Gunn and Christian Siriano, winner of Season 4 of Project Runway have hosted Simon Fashion Now events here in San Diego and so I was in "good company"--or at the very least, had "big shoes" to fill...(especially with the incomparable Tim Gunn!). Nick and Courtney Dwyer at the CW6 Weekend Morning Show

After a quiet and lovely Friday night dinner at the very chic Solamar Hotel Restaurant, Jsix, and a good-night's rest, I was "up and ready" for Saturday's full schedule of events. First, I was scheduled to do a couple of San Diego's top Morning Shows beginning at 8 AM to publicize Style Wars as well as Simon Fashion Now.

I stopped by San Diego's CW6 TV and and then went over to KUSI-TV and filmed a fun interview segment for their Weekend Morning Show, starring their Fashion Forward host for Style, Leonard Simpson.

After my TV appearances were done, it was time for the "Main Event": I headed over to San Diego's Fashion Valley, and began my hosting duties. Ten of the top Advanced Fashion Design students from my alma mater, the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising/FIDM were given one hour and several yards of pink taffeta and their challenge was to drape a gown or a dress. Style Wars was a Project Runway mini-challenge which seemed totally appropriate since FIDM is the new West Coast home of Project Runway. I helped mentor these students so they could achieve their utmost potential for this draping competition. If anyone knows a thing or two about time constraints and draping, it might be me.San Diego Chic: Nick Verreos and FIDM Debut Director, Mary Stephens, pose with the Simon Valley Style Wars Celebrity Judges

A panel of local celebrities and San Diego fashionistas judged the students on their draping--the only criteria being "Pick which one you like!". The judges were chic Gillian Flynn of Riviera Magazine, the very pretty Nikki Jones, from 944 Magazine, the stylish Andrea Naversen of Ranch & Coast Magazine, the gorgeous Arthel Neville, from Fox5 Morning News, and my new San Diego "BFF" , Leonard Simpson. The judges deliberated and chose Kapasa Musonda as the winner (she won a $250 Simon Shopping Gift Certificate!) and the First Runner Up was Sam Klemick, who won a $100 Simon Gift Certificate. Congratulations to my FIDM Debut Students for draping some of the most gorgeous gowns and dresses---under such time constraints and in front of hundreds of onlookers. The "Finale" display on the runway was AMAZING! Afterward, I signed photos and took pictures with lots of Project Runway fans and San Diego "mall shoppers". I also went shopping with David (who of course came with me since he is from San Diego) and did some "retail damage". I tried to support Fashion Valley, Simon Fashion Now, and the US economy, one H&M skinny pant, and Gucci belt at a time!
Enjoy the wonderful Photo Slide Show below of my fun weekend in San Diego's Fashion Valley.

Untitled!!!

Thanks to Isabel, Yu and Ann who called today and asked where have I been last week!!! I guess it is a great thing that I have this blog so all my friends, well, "almost", know when/where to find me when they can't get a hold of me!! :) And when they do call, I get to update what they have been up to as well.

How I wish all my friends can have their personal blog and share everything w/ us everyday!!!!! lol Isn't that wonderful?!!

So where have I been?

The truth is I am still around!!
In-laws are coming this Sunday and where else could I be w/ 3 kids around anyway!! :)

So what do we normally talk about on the phone then?

The conversation will be cliche such as how busy we are after we sign up 2, 3 or even 4 extracurricular activities for each child. Abacus, swimming lesson, painting, piano lesson, tennis practice and let's not forget MOM needs to take care of herself as well.

Like me, I go to Power Yoga 3 or 4 times a week and on top of that, I have 3 hours Acting class on Saturday!! I hardly find a time to do grocery shopping as DH just complained about that today!! :P Then our conversation will come to what did we buy this week! We share our love in fashion and life. It is interesting that Yu and I were talking about what's the differences between $300 coffee machine VS. $3000 ones this afternoon!! We probably would rather spend that much money on designer BAG than a coffee machine!! :P
If we didn't talk about FAMILY, then we skip to our SPENDING!!!!! It is SO TRUE that Money can't buy everything but w/o money, you hardly do anything!!!

Here I want to share my new addiction to you girls.

MAC eye liner and RapidLash-- for thicker/longer lashes!!

I think my eyes look bigger...... well, or I just hypnotize myself!!! hahaha...

Let's see what I wore last week!! I must say I am not 100% satisfied w/ the looks and I took some of the pieces to alter after seeing those modeling pic. of myself. hahaha...... And that's the reason I am hesitate to post them too. However, I am sure I will come up much charming ensembles in the future!! :)

Thursday!

Long time no see Chanel metallic navy striped reissue 277!

Finally I brought this IRO pants for alternation and I will try to wear it more structured way next time!!lol

Friday!

My new hat!

Accessory: RUGBY double buckle belt/Rossi Sergio red buckle heels/Flying Lizard Design turquoise necklace w/ gold disc/Chanel matte white reissue.

Linda Loudermilk organic bamboo asymmetrical suit!!

Hermes CDC!

Red heels always compliment an all black suit!

Sunday!

We had Vietnamese food at "The Green Papaya" restaurant in Los Gatoes on Sunday!!

Abby just finished her very first piano class in that neighborhood....look at her all grouchy face!!

I am very fond of this shelf, I like it has vintage and French kinda look.

That's all!!!

Why do I always spend my wages before I get them???

I started laughing to myself when I read Yinka's a.k.a. Vex In The City's post the other day about whether you think your spending has increased since you started your blog. The answer in my case is a resounding YES! Reading all the posts about must have products, killer heels and amazing bags just fuels the fire as far as I'm concerned. I find myself pouring over the newest items to be released and limited edition stuff (this evil ploy makes you want it even more!).

These days, I seem to have my wages spent before they arrive in my account. It's 2 weeks exactly until the money fairy is going to sprinkle funds into my bank account and my growing list of beauty and clothes lustings have already swallowed a great big chunk of my pay!

For example, I already have my eye on these shoes (Gold shoeboots from Dune £95 and studded fringed boots from River Island £84.99). I just can't help myself! I keep imagining all the wonderful outfits I could put together with them. They are just gorgeous and they
keep calling out to me...so really, it's not my fault, it's theirs...they won't leave me alone until I buy them.
My weakness is definitely shoes and makeup. I have a 'Lust List' that I keep on my computer...yes, I am THAT sad! I add products to it that I have seen people rave about or just ones that i want to try and then I strike them off as I get them. The weird thing is the list never seems to get smaller though...

So does anyone else have a list like this? What is your weakness when payday arrives?

I am Baaaack :)

After an 18 hour boat, bus, plane, taxi ride bonanza I am finally back in the UK, yay!

However, the term jet lag doesn't quite cut it. I can't wait to jump into bed and sleep forever! My flat is a mess right now and I have a million and one things to do after being away for over 6 weeks, (including tearing Maxie away from my friend who has been looking after him and now doesn't want to let him go)!

I promise that when I am in less of a frizzy zombie state I shall post more about my trip. I have missed you all very much!!
love,
Natalya xxx
