#1 FAQ: What Is My Hair Care Routine *updated*

Hi Beauties,

Many of you have asked what is my hair care routine.
Honestly, I am more of a makeup person and so when it comes to my hair, I really don't like to fuzz with it much. I found a system that works for me and doesn't require too much labor. (so I can have more time to play with makeup, lol).

What I use?
Devachan salon hair products. www.devachansalon.com

Wash?
No-Poo "Shampoo"
This product doesn't make suds. It is a creamy consistency.

Conditioner?
Devachan One Condition to comb out the tangles with a wide tooth comb in the shower. I do not wash it out at all.

Once I come out of the shower, I towel dry my hair. If I have extra time, I'll get some Bounty Paper Towels to remove some of the water from my hair instead. They recommend also using a white cotton t-shirt instead of a towel because you can avoid frizzy-ness.

Treatments:
I recently discovered the Devachan Heaven In Hair deep moisture treatment. I've used it about 7 times and it leaves my hair super shiny and soft. Would highly recommended this. I use this about once a week.

Gel?
A few descent palm fulls of Devachan Angell to spread allover my hair.
I scrunch my hair to 'activate' my curls.

At the part in my hair, I use a few hair clips to lift the hair from the root. This creates volume once your hair is try.

I then dry my hair with a regular hair dryer and diffuser.
Once it's all dry, I scrunch my hair again to remove the hard film from the crystallized gel. Shake it around upside down to create volume.

Done!

Hair Cut and Shape
I also go to Devachan salon for my haircut about every 6 months, sometimes longer since my hair doesn't grow very fast in general.

They cut your hair dry in it's curly state.

I ask for a senior stylist when I make an appointment to the salon, which is a bit more expensive. But, since I don't really go too often, it's reasonable.
The last person to give me a hair cut was Marvin @ the Broadway Location.
He gave me great shape and I would go to him again.

As your hair grows out, the overall shape remains.

:-)

Hope this helps,
Awilda

Nick Verreos attends the Natalia Romano Launch Party

A Former Student Makes "Papa Nick" Proud!
Khaki and Turquoise: Nick Verreos and designer Natalie Hara at her Natalia Romano Launch Party

Last week I attended the launch party of Natalia Romano, a new womenswear line designed by Natalie Hara, a recent graduate of FIDM. I was especially excited to attend this party since Natalie was actually one of my students in the Advanced Fashion Design Major. She showed her FIDM Debut 2009 Collection in February at the Santa Monica Barker Hangar. And now, in just four months, she has designed a complete new collection post-school and moved into a great new space in the Downtown LA Garment District, located on the 6Th floor of the LA Apparel Mart Building. I was teaching until about 9 PM so I arrived "fashionably late". The party was in full swing, with delicious hors d'oeuvres, a Vodka Open Bar and even a cute DJ, spinning tunes for all the guests to enjoy. FIDM Debut Reunion: Former classmates of Natalie Hara, celebrating in her Natalia Romano Launch Party

Lots of her friends, including her fellow FIDM Debut '09 students, were there to offer their congratulations. Natalie's most gracious family were all there as well--including her DIVA grandmother who was the definition of charm and class.Fashion Party: Nick Verreos, designer Natalie Hara of Natalia Romano and Amanda Luttrell Garrigus

Fashion Personality, Amanda Luttrell Garrigus, stopped by to also view the line. Amanda is one of the most stylish women in LA, so if she's there, you now this must be good! I asked Natalie to show me the new line. In two words: Casual Chic. And very wearable and elegant, as well. It was a complete--and very fresh--departure from what she did at school for her Debut Year, which were very attention-getting gowns.
Golds, beiges, metallics and mustard yellows: The Natalia Romano Line

These were real clothes for a real, albeit very stylish woman, young or old. These were clothes I could see at Intermix, Scoop or Barney's CoOp. I am a "Gown Guy" but Natalie won me over with her separates. My favorites included her metallic tops, printed shorts and pencil skirts in heavy upholstery-like fabric, and some very-now "Harem" pants that were pleated and full up top and narrow at the bottom. Of course, the Natalia Romano collection had some festive dresses perfectly made for all the Young Hollywood set who venture to Hyde , Chateau Marmont and Les Deux. In fact, the designer herself was dressed in one her own designs, a turquoise satin off-the-shoulder Sari-inspired dress, which could stop Hollywood traffic! Congratulations Natalie on a great launch party. I wish you much success! Hope to see it in stores and on lots of those beautiful Hollywood "It" girls real soon!

AKA 10th Anniversary Party at Hollywood and Highland!!

Out and About: Nick Verreos at the AKA 10Th Anniversary PartyFormer Miss Universe, Brook Lee, in NIKOLAKI, with the designer Nick Verreos

Last week was the 10Th Anniversary of AKA Talent Agency Party at the Hollywood and Highland Complex' Highlands Nightclub in the heart of Hollywood. The party was CRAZY packed with agents, their clients--from actors, TV hosts, child stars, their parents (Oh Dear!) and anybody in between. I said "Hello" to Rex Lee, star of HBO's Entourage as well as others, including the beautiful Brook Lee, former Miss Universe and host for various TV shows. You can currently even see her all over LA, in those ubiquitous Verizon "Friends and Family" Spanish-language ads. I love how she is Hawaiian, yet she's doing a Spanish-language ad! She totally can pass for a Latina, at least in LA! Brook loves to wear my designs for red carpet events and naturally, she chose to wear one of my NIKOLAKI navy blue silk cocktail numbers for this one. She looked so cute that we had to pose together of course!

New Guerlain Compact and Style Warriors wishlist

This beee-yoootiful compact is part of Guerlain's summer 2009 collection. The white pearl, taupe, beige and aqua colour looks perfect for me and th effect is described as pearly iridescence so they are not highly pigmented. They are supposed to be a wash of colour rather than a bright flash. Perfect when you don't want a heavy look in the summer.
I have been eagerly awaiting the MAC Style Warriors collection coz I've seen tutorials and reviews on all the products. There are a few that I'm going to pick up for myself.
Firstly, I'm very interested in the bronzer in Solar Riche after reading a review on Hele Says. Also, Belle Du Jour had posted pics of her wearing the Pink Rebel Lustre Drops and I lurve any kind of illuminating/brightening products that can be used under foundation or over it as a highlight on the cheekbone/down centre of nose/brow bone.

The third product I would love to get is Solar Bits in Scatterays after seeing a post from Belle Du Jour where she created such a gorgeous look with them. Has anyone else tried these products in particular? What do you like/not like about them? Is it worth me spending my hard earned cash on?

Cute Summer Accessories Alert!

Let's be honest, accessories can make or break an outfit. You can take a simple classical dress and by adding the right shoes, bag, belt or jewellery, you can transform it into an edgy, up to the minute look. We all know how amazing a killer pair of shoes or a gorgeous bag can make you feel. Well I have posted a few of my favourite accessories around at the moment to pep up your summer wardrobe.
For a nod to the nautical trend, how cute is this Anchor Bracelet from Accessorize(£8)?! It's frickin adorable is what it is! Team this with a nice little white or navy summer dress, blue and white stripey wedges and a neck scarf and you have yourself a gorgeous oufit.
These purple platforms from New Look (£50) would add a flash of colour to any outfit and needless to say I am a big fan of platform shoes. They are so much more comfortable to wear than normal sandals. I think it's just because you get the height without your foot being pushed into such an extreme angle.

This Pink 'suede look' fringed and studded bag is only £23.99 from www.missguided.co.uk. I prefer real suede for a more luxe look but for that price, I would be willing to accept faux! This fringed bag is a great interpretation of the 'folk' look, which is around at the moment. I LOVE the colour and it would definitely add a bit of style to a summer outfit. I'm going to get it and wear it with a white cotton beach dress from Accessorize and brown gladiator sandals. Perfecto!

The straw city bag with a patent black bow, from Topshop, is £25 and is just the cutest little bag ever! It would be perfect for a holiday bag - just big enough to be practical and just small enough to be cute!
