Small Clothes Haul, Nails And Summer Hair

I'm sitting here typing this with only partial sensation in my arms.  What the hell happened to my arms? Well, Tone It Up happened to my arms.  I did one of their routines which features a 'woodchopper' move where you swing a weighted (or exercise) ball from above your head, diagonally across your body, whilst twisting your waist and keeping your feet stationary.  It works your arms, chest, abs and obliques and I can honestly say that no other exercise has floored me like this one does.  I did 3 sets of 15 on each side and you really can feel it working your whole body!

So what was I up to this weekend? Why, basking in the glorious sunshine of course! I hope everyone has also had amazing weather.  I had a few business appointments yesterday but luckily I managed to shoe-horn some shopping on the way.  I am a true multi-tasker!

I picked up this gorgeous butterfly scarf from a shop in Aberdeen called Attic.  The scarf is by a company called Cheeky Budha which I had never heard of before.  Although the scarf itself is almost sheer, it's quite substantial in size which makes it look and feel more expensive.  For the bargainous price of £10.00 I could hardly pass it by.  It just screams summer to me and it's just so pretty!

I was in the mood for metallic on Friday so I grabbed my Nars Full Metal Jacket polish and whacked it on my nails.  I feel like my nails are the perfect length at the moment and I managed to salvage them from the state they were in last week.  Basically I didn't wear latex gloves to apply my John Frieda Go Blonder Lightening Spray to my roots and the hydrogen peroxide in it ruined my nails and split them!  So from now on, I will DEFINITELY be wearing gloves before I even touch the stuff.

I also picked up an amazing Jarlo coral floral summer dress from a shop in Aberdeen called Concept.  I fell in love with the colour as soon as I spotted it!  The special thing about this dress is that the hem gradually darkens to a beautiful red shade...

The bust on the dress is really well structured so it feels very secure when you're wearing it (it also makes my boobs look fake in this pic!ha ha).  On me, it falls just above the knee (I am 5ft7) .  The thing I love about this shade of coral is that it instantly makes me look more tanned and I feel like it looks really nice with blonde hair.

I will probably wear this dress to death during summer because it would be appropriate for both day or night and I could accessorise it with loads of different things to create different looks.  I need to do a little more work on my upper body before summer comes though because I still have a bit of chunk to lose!ha ha.  You know the extra bits you get under your arms where they meet your body? Very annoying but a couple more weeks at the gym and they will be banished!

After featuring this polish on my most lusted after item of the week, I found it on Amazon here for just £7.75!  I absolutely adore this OPI Cajun Shrimp nail polish because it's the PERFECT summer coral shade.  It's not too red or orange or pink.  It's just tropical, juicy and vibrant.  It really compliments medium skintones and brings out a tan beautifully.  I can tell that I will be wearing this non-stop in the summer and just to sweeten the deal, it's a brilliant polish in the respect that it dries quickly and lasts a good few days on your nails.  I highly recommend this!

This is definitely my perfect summer hair look which I created by using Pantene Colour Protect & Smooth Instant Nourishing Spray, Tresemme 24 Hour Volume Root Boost Spray, my Babyliss Conical Wand and Aussie Volume and Gloss Hairspray.  I love the relaxed curls look and it really makes the most of my fine hair that would usually fall pretty flat naturally.  I know I have mentioned it so many times on my blog but I really do think everyone needs a Babyliss Conical Wand because it's so cheap, easy to use and takes no time at all.  You can get one here from Amazon for only £20.53.  I tell everyone I know about it because I really struggled to curl my hair before I got mine.  I kept looking longingly at other girl's bouncy, voluminous hair and wished I could create the same effect on my own.

It takes a while to get used to using the wand but once you get the hang of it, it's easy peasy!  You have to remember to always curl hair AWAY from your face.  That's what will create that flicked back look like I have in the pics above.  It took me a while to work that out!

It's the perfect hair tool to create gorgeous summer hair!

And my most played gym tune of the weekend?
 I LOVE this song!

TRW - OOTD

Since neither my friends nor I were invited to the royal wedding (quelle surprise!) we were very excited to attend a party in honour of the wedding in the heart of Trafalgar Square instead. With plenty of delicious canapes and glasses of champagne that were refilled with the utmost haste it was the perfect way to celebrate such a special occasion. I decided to keep within the 'royal and loyal' theme and wear a bright red dress, inspired by the style of one of the esteemed wedding guests - none other than Mrs Beckham ;).
I purchased this VB inspired dress from ASOS a few weeks ago, initially to wear to work due to its modest hemline. On arrival I decided this dress would be better suited to other occasions - let's just say it looked a little more demure on the athletic build of the model ;). I paired the dress with a patent leather belt from Ted Baker and black heels from Carvela.
Makeup was applied hastily using a hand mirror while watching the wedding footage, so was kept pretty simple using all the usual suspects (NARS sheer glow as foundation, laguna as bronzer and MAC well dressed blush). On the eyes I used Urban Decay's naked palette (sin on the lid and naked in the crease), Dior liquid liner and No7 Exquisite Curl mascara. I then added a little colour to the lips with The Bodyshop's lipgloss in an unfortunately discontinued sheer red colour.
To add some volume into my hair I used Shan Rahimkhan True Colour shampoo and Double Phase Leave in Treatment as a light spray leave -in conditioner. I don't use these every day as my long hair needs a lot of moisture to keep it soft and nourished, but for days when I need more volume and bounce these products are unbeatable! They make my hair feel very light and help the volume created through heat styling last much longer. As I was pressed for time instead of using hot rollers I used the Babyliss Big Hair to add height at the roots and some soft curls at the ends.

I hope you all had a wonderful day off and enjoyed the royal wedding. Did you celebrate at home or join in a street part? If you were in London did you manage to catch a glimpse of the beautiful couple? xxx

William and Catherine Royal Wedding Red Carpet Report: The Pre-Wedding Gala Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel London!

Gowns Gowns and More Gowns...

Ladies In Red--and Orange: Crown Princess of Sweden, Countess of Wessex, Princess Mathilde of Belgium, Grand Duchess of Luxembourg

My faithful Royal Red Carpet Watchers and Readers:
Here's what I think will be my final "Nick V. Royal Wedding Red Carpet Report" (for now!). It's from the very fabulous Pre-Wedding Gala Dinner given by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in very posh Knightsbridge overlooking Hyde Park. The dinner was a Black Tie-Only affair with the ladies wearing Gowns Only. The Guest List was strictly reserved for the inner Royal Family, and all its associated members, as well as top royals from neighboring European countries --who are related to the UK Royals anyhow; first cousins, distant cousins... well, you get it, they're all "family".

Red Princess: Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden in Escada

In the first group of four (pictured above) are Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, who looked SMASHING in a scarlet red draped silk crepe Escada gown held by a small diamond brooch. Next to her was Sophie Countess of Wessex Wife to Prince Edward, who also wore red--a red silk taffeta gown with interesting bust detail.

Orange High-Water Gown: Princess Mathilde of Belgium Duchess of Brabant

Next was Princess Mathilde of Belgium, seen above with her husband, Prince Philip of Belgium. She wore an orange scooped-neck shirred gown with cascade front drapes, which weirdly enough, made her look pregnant. It looked a bit ill-fitting and almost "off-the-rack", and THAT length?? What was that! FLOOR length darling! To the floor!!! Was she expecting a flood?

Duchess Elegance: Maria Theresa Grand Duchess of Luxembourg

And next to her was Cuban-born Maria Theresa Grand Duchess of Luxembourg with her husband, the Grand Duke of course. Much better than what we saw from her the day after at the actual Royal Wedding. At least here, she looks less like a Soccer Mom in a cheap suit from Dillard's and more an elegant Duchess!! Her hair looks FAB, the off-the-shoulder red gown with over-sized waist-bow detail is elegant and HELLO: It hits the FLOOR! She just gets my Instant Nick Love, just for that!

A-List Royal Guests: Princess Beatrice, Princess Tatiana of Greece and Denmark, Queen Elizabeth II

Above, three women who didn't disappoint--Royal Red Carpet style. Fashionista No. 1, Princess Beatrice--she of THE Hat that has its own Facebook Page!!--yes, her. Beatrice wore an ivory and silver metallic one-shoulder "Mermaid-shaped" gown by designer Rachel Gilbert. It's a bit "Priscilla Queen of the Desert" but I still say "At-A-Girl!". On her right is Princess Tatiana of Greece and Denmark, wife of Prince Nikolaos of Greece and Denmark.

She wore a navy blue silk satin strapless gown with grosgrain ribbon detailing from Giorgio Armani Spring 2011 Collection. Interesting that on the runway, the dress was shown in a more casual manner, above the floor and with flats, but on her, she correctly had it to the floor and wore it with heels.

The Queen Exotic: Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Then, there was the Hostess with the Mostess: Her Majesty The Queen. Three Words: You Go Girl! Only Elizabeth II can host a Black tie Royal Wedding Party in a brightly printed drop-waist gown in lilac with metallic details, gold pumps and matching gold leather handbag. The gown had a Near Orient motif which was perfect since the Dinner Party was at the Mandarin Oriental. A good hostess thinks of everything darlings, even coordinating her hosting gown with the locale!

Ball Gown Happy: Prince Felipe, Princess Letizia, Queen Sofia of Spain

A Trio of Royals: Prince Felipe of Spain, his wife, Princess Letizia and his mother, Queen Sofia showed up to the Night-Before Dinner dressed to the Nines! Felipe looked dapper in a complete tuxedo. So handsome. His mother, Queen Sofia was REGAL, in a bronzed taffeta ball gown from designer Margarita Nuez. She accessorized it with several layers of pashmina shawls to protect her from the cold London evening.

Princess Seam Princess: Princess Letizia of Spain in Felipe Varela

And to finish off the Spanish Royal contingency, Princess Letizia wore a lavender strapless gown with embroidered applique detail by Spanish designer Felipe Varela. I loved that she wore a ball gown, however, I just thought it was a rather "unexciting one". Basic sweetheart bustier neckline; princess seams...Seriously Letizia? There are soooo many more creative ball gown designs. This just seams so "pattern book" cookie cutter. It was pretty but very "David's Bridal 101".

Billion Dollar Man: Sultan of Brunei and his Queen

Sultan of Brunei, Sir Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah and his first (and currently, only) wife (he had three total, but divorced two) Queen of Brunei, Pengiran Anak Saleha , who incidentally, is his first cousin (Hello!).

Margrethe II Queen of Denmark (above) was of course, invited to this Pre-Wedding Gala Dinner. She's known for her fluid but yet very sumptuous ball gowns--always in big (rather tacky) floral prints. But, this time, someone must have advised her correctly: She looked classy, restrained, and dare I say CHIC! Love th color contrast between the lavender and the chocolate silk satin. Margrethe II gets my "Most Improved Royal" award for this one.

Speaking of the Danes, above we have Queen Anne-Marie of Greece (she was born Princess of Denmark in Copenhagen). She looked quite elegant--and fun--in this flower-printed silk chiffon gown, bronze waist tie and gold shoes...and THAT necklace! As we know, Queen Anne-Marie is the wife of Constantine II, the former King of Greece (who is also Danish and from the same House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg)...Where was the King, you might ask?

Admiring Princess Michael of Kent right before going inside the Mandarin Oriental Hotel (as wife looked on). The Princess--an Austrian-Hungarian member of the British Royal Family, is...
The wife to Prince Michael of Kent Grandson to King George V (above left), She wore a gorgeous chocolate brown silk draped-and-shirred gown with a stunning diamond brooch at the center front bust, a sequined clutch and bronzed satin shawl. She was definitely one of the most stylish royals that night, even with that 80's braided hairdo of hers.
